yeah. a lot of them are decent designs and fit in perfectly fine, catalyst or whoever has reins over battletech lore seems pretty happy to adopt things from games into canon, I think even the weird case of the 55-ton centurion was made official.

Roughneck, hmn. I iunno, something about this - the art style, the hands, the lowslung posture for punching - make me think that PGI may be making this as a periphery homebrew model for the battletech game, which uses models.

Anyone watch the MechCon presentation? Russ came out and immediately started sounding like a tremendous jackass. He made it sound like he was doing Harebrained Schemes a huge favor by giving them space. Uhhh, no, sorry Russ, hate to say it but when Battletech launches you're gonna lose a big chunk of you playerbase. People like Mechwarrior, and MWO just happens to be arguably the only modern incarnation of it on PC. Once another viable product ( ) launches, they are going to go to what is clearly a more superior product. And then for some reason he also came off as a tremendous jackass to the rep from Catalyst Games too. Though to be fair, it seems like Catalyst don't know what the gently caress to do with tabletop.

So can anyone give a run down on what they announced? I took a nap because those matches they were airing were boring as gently caress and I didn't want to waste my time watching them or listening to two idiots crow on about "map control". Competitive MWO is a loving joke.

I'm not sure, but something about that city on a hill and the base layout coming out of the bay really makes me think of the hairbrained battletech alpha footage. lame for the hawk being torsolocked by default tho. thanks russ! Does the skill tree system mean I will be able to become the ace urbanmech pilot that this game deserves? I can only imagine most of the IS chassis becoming irredeemable garbage if their quirks get dumped, because it is absolute fact that hardpoint placement, mech geometry, and cockpit placement alone will automatically make T shaped mechs amazing (the blackjack) while making the knuckle dragging barn doors (the awsome, the cataphract) total garbage. I want to know how broken the system is going to be, or how much it is going to throw balance out the window and just leave clan mechs in a position to completely dominate the game.

Quirks are the only reason the Cataphract isn't in the running for the best IS heavy in the game. Its torso energy mounts are on the top corners of its body, on either side of the cockpit. If you have good torso hardpoints, low-slung arms are an advantage, not a disadvantage, because arms can absorb enemy fire. Lights don't get close unless they're murderfucking, staring down a larger mech is a suicide pill.

I can't help it; I know I should temper my excitement for the MW5:M trailer, but it looks great. It's clearly a very small level and very early in the stages of development, but there are a lot of things done right with it that MWO doesn't really capture; the heaviness of the mech, the sense of scale, audio on weapons and fx, and hell, it's even set in 3015 before the tech starts to get really hosed. That means things are being learned from mistakes, which is excellent. Also glad to hear 19 say that Russ was playing it live, which means the Raven was actually being computer controlled instead of piloted by a dude for the demo or on a predetermined rail. The trailer also looks like it's all done with what actually exists in the game right now instead of being a bullshot that was done in 3dsmax or running way higher specs than could reasonably be handled by a computer, only to be toned down later. On the flip side to all this positive news, there is the last five years of MWO.

Its torso energy mounts are on the top corners of its body, on either side of the cockpit. If you have good torso hardpoints, low-slung arms are an advantage, not a disadvantage, because arms can absorb enemy fire. Yeah, but its cockpit is low on the body and it is extremely wide, so people are able to see it rounding a corner or coming up over a hill before it is able to see or shoot them. They're also extremely wide on the mech, so you have to fully expose your wide, wide body to bring all your firepower to bear if you're rounding a corner. High cockpits and high firepoints are the best combination, but either of those being low can make for a bad chassis. The archer is a good example of a mech with good, high hard points, but a super low cockpit that removes any advantage that you have from having those high fire points. The battlemaster has a high cockpit and high fire points, the banshee 3M has the same deal, the kodiak has a huge amount of high firepoints, the hunchback IIC has a pile of ballistic and energy hard points all way high up. They can all fire while exposing maybe 1/3rd of the top of the mech on a hill. Almost all of the guns you can mount on those chassis sit on that same super high plane, meaning you can fire all of your guns when you need to. The cataphract has two hard points that can be placed high, and all the rest sit between waist and knee level on the mech. Unless it is firing those two points, which also can't hold ppcs, it has to expose everything to bring all its guns into the fight. If you can draw a a T on a mech and almost none of the mech sits above that T, and the cockpit and the majority of its hard points sit on the top of it, it is likely a good mech. The cataphract is just all over the place. Commoners fucked around with this message at 07:59 on Dec 4, 2016 |
