Also wonder how they are going to bleed whales with a standalone game, other than like an expensive collectors edition. Crossover DLC packs. I could give a long list of revenue possibilities really. Pre-order this mech pack for MWO and also get a chassis unlock for MW:5 if you collect the special blinky thing on Mission 2. Buy this DLC pack for MW:5 and get a decal unlock for MWO. etc etc A lot of meta stuff goes out the window in a MW:Mercs environment because sourcing replacement clan lasers as a merc is going to be loving hard & expensive. You'd want IS tech just to keep your budget under control. DancingShade fucked around with this message at 07:57 on Dec 4, 2016 |

That MW:5 trailer is much more of a tech demo than anything guys. Sure, it looks and sounds real pretty, but we didn't really see anything at all in it. Most of the 'mech-scale assets existed already and were probably ported over directly from MWO (or at least mostly and then tweaked to look a bit better), and the addition of an on-foot component makes me really, really pessimistic. Also it's so it'll almost certainly be awful. At least we have HBS holding the torch. Is there a rundown anywhere of the changes to MWO in a nice concise bullet-point format? Looking forward to seeing how they gently caress it up now in some effort to try to shakeup their player numbers a bit.

They're also extremely wide on the mech, so you have to fully expose your wide, wide body to bring all your firepower to bear if you're rounding a corner. Based on a year and a loving half of Phract madness in the pre-quirk, pre-Clan days, I can assure you that none of this is actually true. The cockpit isn't THAT low, and the 3D was always excellent at shooting over or around things. It was always dominant, while Jagers suffered from both their lack of JJs and relative fragility due to the high arms.

The map is clearly tiny and a lot of the video is taken up with pre-baked animation, but equally it was apparently being played live at the event, so the game at least functions on a basic level, the mechs are pilotable and shoot, there is rudimentary ai, etc.

Yeah, but the cataphract being dominant was because it had the hard points to pile on gauss and ppcs while having jump jets in the poptart meta. Jump jets aren't the death machine makers that they previously were, gauss isn't an instashot anymore, and ppcs just exist as they do. The current meta is just plain hill humping with jump jets used every now and then for trick shots and mobility.

I mostly like what I see. I'm mad they didn't have a player model ready to grab the hatch, open, walk inside, sit and close the hatch. The actual fight with the raven I can forgive because they're trying to show off them effects. I'll give them another chance, seeing as I spent 0 dollars on MWO and got a few months worth of fun with goons out of it. CaptCommy posted:So if all the IS quirks are gone, doesn't that make Clan everything unequivocally better? Definitely going to need more info on this. Dropping bonuses was something they should've done day one, it's a boring grind. However, doing that now after quirks basically just tipped the scales in IS mech's favor, it's really fishy.

Yeah I liked the way the mech fight looked, but it didn't excite me otherwise. But a skirmish game attached to a contract and upgrade engine would be fun and not hard to do, so I'll be cautiously optimistic. Seriously tell your bosses to get some proper writing and voicework though 19. The trailer also looks like it's all done with what actually exists in the game right now instead of being a bullshot that was done in 3dsmax or running way higher specs than could reasonably be handled by a computer, only to be toned down later. This demo is no more "real" or less "fake" than if it weren't on a rail. First-reveal demos presented like this are, more often than not, mockups that are intended to give an idea of what the final will look like. The quality of a mockup like this doesn't have much to do with the quality of the final product. Treat it exactly the same way you would any other promotional footage.

The term generally used is "vertical slice," where you show the basic functional game elements in a limited yet playable fashion. It's generally meant to be more indicative of a product actually under development with some core systems in place, rather than a pre-rendered/pre-recorded video which gives less of an idea how much of the game is actually developed.

And, while Russ played it onstage at Mechcon, I want to be the annoying jerk pointing out that every element shown so far is part of the bog standard UT4 out of the box featureset. Drop in the assets PGI already had (or had the art team make) and it looks pretty, sure, but it doesn't show anything distinct in the way of gameplay or features.

What is Mech IK? Are they going to have Idiot Kings running the forums? That would be entirely appropriate. Next Mech to be announced will be a light. Good, even though it won't be seen before summer i think. Preemptively dubbing it "CBillsmas" when they refund all modules en masse. In light of such refunds, I might start buying some extra radar derps to make Mech switching less annoying and/or have a fully derped lance for Invasion. e: google keyboard guessed "panhypopituitarism" instead of "preemptively". I'm not happy too see the reveal, because this is presumably where most of PGI's money and development time is going to go. Given their track record so far, they're going to formally (instead of practically obvs) abandon MWO development save for mechpaks and pour everything into this. And if whale money starts to dry up, I'll bet they won't hesitate to pull the servers.

Ok I'm possibly being a bit unfair, the trailer looked okay but it's basically a scripted single player MWO so it's not like that far out of line with the poo poo theyre working on now. I mean the Shadowhawk looked pretty good? I bet it will be decent bug buggy probably, and man he was really showing his rear end to that Raven a lot yikes.

It's a game built on UT4, vs MWO, which is built on Cryengine. There is a lot of time and effort needed to learn one vs the other, and this time was funded purely on the backs of MWO subscribers, instead of that money being re-invested in MWO itself. Considering how obsolete cryengine is (PGI was never on the latest version and the company that made it is now out of business) the fact that instead of moving MWO to a new engine, they chose instead to skim off MWO money developing expertise on a new engine, and using that expertise for another nostalgia cash grab. Oh, but Russ said it was a separate group of developers. They are still being paid from a source of income, of which PGI only has 1. EoRaptor fucked around with this message at 15:48 on Dec 4, 2016 |

All XP being refunded, all cbills spend on modules refunded. Also, there's a limited number of slots per chassis you can use to allocate points to so you have to decide how you want to min/max. It's all respeccable too if you need to.
