Well What Now posted:the enemy is Trump and his cronies my primary question for liberals is this: are you down with letting capitalism continue to gently caress us into oblivion? if they are, they're a neoliberal or a conservative who doesn't know it yet like all those "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" idiots who don't realize you can't have the first thing coexist with the second. if they're willing to stand up against the elites, then I'll gladly have them along, but we don't need class traitors loving us up from the inside

I'm not even advocating for the destruction of capitalism (yet), only that we shackle it and make it serve the public interest. force caps on personal wealth like Huey Long proposed, limit yearly maximum incomes and tax the rich 100% above it. you can still live in the mansion of your choosing, but no more stockpiling wealth and investing it into poo poo that only benefits the bare minimum of humanity. once we've got capitalism by the balls then we can gut it, but that's my version of ~incrementalism~

To be honest the only thing that Americans understand is catastrophe. We couldn't have the New Deal without the Great Depression. We as Americans have a proud tradition of being too stupid/willfully ignorant of any given issue until it boils over and fucks us hard. And even then there's no actual guarantee we'll do anything to fix it. In fact the GOP is dedicated to digging any hole deeper.

I agree, I just don't want to gut any potential source of support for the early stages of that kind of incrementalism prematurely. The Bolsheviks didn't start their revolution by shooting the Kadets and the Mensheviks, after all. Tatum Girlparts posted:genuine question, since it comes up so much, how would you possibly sell things like 'caps on personal wealth' to the whole 'temporarily embarrassed millionaire' crowd that Trump won over so easy? Tell them they won't pay a dime of those taxes unless they make more than whatever the $100,000+/yr figure is that the cap kicks in at.
