i just played battlefield all weekend until someone pinged me the servers were up then I got in almost immediately to a 200 person queue, it booted me out, and I got into a 2000 person queue i wait 10 minutes and dropped like 100 people and I closed the game its the same trion experience I always remembered

so I logged in when the servers came up, rolled a character, then bought Patron. Then I logged out so the patron bonuses would apply, went to log back in, and got a 2000 person queue. I'm still waiting to get in. this is just like I remembered

I think most of the people who defend the gated content system have been playing fairly consistently so they dont know just how detrimental it is for new and returning players to log in and have to slog through days of lovely fetch quests in order to reach a point where you can play with your friends. It is a really poorly designed system that is made worse for new players every time more content is added to the game. So much else of FFXIV is really well designed, I dont understand how the gated content has been allowed to get so bad.

I started FFXIV in about 2.45 and never had issues  Just do poo poo at your own pace, there's a shitload of good content to go through. Yeah, the lovely fetch quests are lovely, but they also learned that and put them all into lovely sidequests you never have to touch since the first expansion, and they said they'll fix the 2.x storyline slog in the next expansion in June. Also, something about skipping to level 60 directly
