Yeah, that's what I meant. Bendis had killed Janet back early in his Avengers run, then in the final issues four years ago he brings her back rather suddenly, thus putting the toys back where they were.

She didn't die until Secret Invasion which was four years into his run on New Avengers and pretty much halfway through his Avengers run overall. His resurrection of the Vision was far more awkward. Vision did die in his first Avengers story and then in that same final arc Tony is like "Surprise! It's the Vision! I totally fixed him in the basement when nobody was looking!"

I can't stand comic movies - any of them, any universe - where the first drat thing that happens to the protagonist is their secret identity gets tossed right out the window.

Either through "investigation" or them straight-up confessing.

If they're playing it like it was with Miles, they share a dormitory together, kind hard to keep your identity secret from someone you sleep in the same room as every night.

Keeping your secret identity from friends is dumb and a source of forced-rear end drama. There is a reason that even heroes with secret identities have done away with it.

Yeah, and when he's in class and Ganke is digging through his stuff to find the porn they shoplifted together and instead finds web-shooters and a costume.

the miles/ganke dynamic is good and it'll probably still be good in the movie, even if it's peter parker and ned leeds instead

this movie kinda feels like it was supposed to be about miles until someone decided it should be about peter at the last second to me, but I like both of them so whatever. having it be about miles and then making peter a teacher at the school could have given them both spider-men at once tho, which would have been cool. maybe they just made it peter so they could bring him in for his cameo in captain america 3?

Spider-man is specifically the character who gets the most out of having a secret identity and doing away with that part of his character in an adaptation is just as silly as doing away with the whole uncle ben thing, imo.

both spider-men have a secret identity but both of them also have people that know who they are

he can keep it a secret from everyone but his friend ned 'ganke' leeds. I don't see why this is a problem

He isn't doing away with the secret identity thing though? He has people who know his secret identity, it isn't the same thing.

I mean any modern Spider-Man is at least somewhat inspired by Ultimate and Ultimate had Peter's friends find out his identity relatively quickly too.

Like yeah, Peter's secret identity meaning he is untrusted/a menace/ect is a central part of the character. Peter refusing to tell his best friend/love interest/ect who he is is just Forced Drama.

Edit:

Look at this fundamental destruction of the concept of Spider-Man!!

Spider-Man's identity has rarely been 100% secure. Times when nobody has known who he is are very few and very short. There's been somebody who's known who he is since, what... Romita-era Green Goblin?

Peter Parker is the most recognizable comic book name behind Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne, so we likely won't see Miles in a movie until there's a Peter Spider-Man that sticks. It was probably a conscious choice to use the newer and less buried in continuity Miles origin and stick in Peter. Also, the cynical explanation of Peter being white, which produces still feel is a safer bet. Black Panther is the first non-white Marvel hero with his own movie, isn't he? And he's not even African-American.

I know. But it was easier for Blade to be made when comic book movies were barely a subgenre and it was sold more as a vampire action movie. Once a bunch of money and big studios got behind them, it took a while for minority heroes to get their own films again. That's not meant to start a whole 'Hollywood is racist' derail. It's just how it is, and why a Miles movie would be really unlikely when they still haven't made Peter Parker part of the MCU.

They coulda split the difference and made Peter mixed race, like his mom was black and his dad was white so his family structure is still exactly the same but he isn't yet another white character. Just super sayin'.

Oh, that is pretty funny.

I always lament how poorly the Raimi movies used MJ. Even though they're 2 and a half great movies that capture the spirit of the Romita era Spider-man perfectly, they manage to make the love interest character more one-dimensional and unlikeable than Stan Lee's 60s sexism ever could. For the longest time I just thought Kirsten Dunst was a terrible actress, until I saw her in other stuff. Turns out her role as MJ had nothing for her to work with.

This is like 90% of the roles offered to women, and then something like Fury Road comes along and you have a bunch of complaints about the focus spent on Academy Award winner Charlize Theron.

Technically (although this was a change made for the movie) Blade is British.
Or if he was filling out the census form White/Black British.
