I'd laugh if the Chinese army tried to invade Taiwan, failed, then the ROC takes over the Mainland and realized they don't want that mess and give it back.

obviously you install a puppet state in both cases that if you're lucky you keep a tight enough leash on one day it might be culturally and economically sensible enough to finally integrate

Paraguay would be the go to example of a war producing an insane demographic imbalance, if any one wants to do some hosed up reading. But it would be an insanely humiliating failure that undermines the government's legitimacy, Falklands on a grand scale more or less. (armchairstrategist.jpg)

Think about it: Good China+Better China=Best China!

It shouldn't take long for a bunch of folks to decide being President of the sovereign state of Shandong or Fujian is better than taking orders from Shanghai. Then turn 'em loose and let them Romance of the Three Kingdoms it out.

I don't know of any war where 30 million dudes were wiped out, but that would finally level the male-female ratio for the country. It would save the government tons of money. I have read that this was actually false. They have 30 million more documented men than women, but estimates of 18-30+ million undocumented girl births so the demographics are actually pretty even - or at least more even than everyone thinks. Those 30 million men actually have no-one to blame but themselves, their education, and their lovely, lovely personal hygiene for being single. True/False?

So I have been feeling like poo poo today with a really bad sinus cold. Stuffed up, sinus pressure, a headache and a bit of soreness in the joints (not the flu). So my wife made me some Ginger and Red Sugar soup when she got back from work and after two bowls I felt much better. Her first reaction was, "HAHA! Chinese medicine works!". I can't deny her that victory since she was so nice, but I didn't tell her that I was also on Tylenol Cold medicine.

The whole, "Chinese medicine wins" was half-sarcastic, as she is only 20-80 on the boat about it. She doesn't believe that the Han Chinese have some sort of magic physiology that makes all western medicine ineffective, or that animal parts give you special powers, but she is of the idea that certain TCM's are more of a "slow burning" treatment rather than a cure-all. Really, her medical beliefs are 90% in line with mine, (she knows that acupuncture is bullshit, that cupping is a joke, etc.) but there are some things that have been ingrained in her that she's not willing to give up. Luckily most of those are pretty harmless and not at all crazy sounding.

Oddly, there is effective Chinese medicine for your symptoms but that's not what she gave you. Said medicine is hepatoxic, can lead to heart problems, and the pseudo in your Tylenol is a safer derivative of the active ingredient anyway.

Apparently my company is trying to score some contracts with local schools. To do this they arranged for demo lessons to be given at various junior highs. Yet, for some mysterious reason our Cameroonian JHS teacher was not asked to teach these lessons. Instead they brought in white high school teachers. I wonder why.
