I thought it was weird how several times Rich looked to Mike for approval before he laughed at a joke someone else had made.

Notice how Jay flinches whenever Mike raises his hand or makes a fist? And when he looks directly at Jay, Jay looks at the floor. Sometimes he urinates. That's learned behavior.

If you haven't seen it, check it out. if you like watching the redletter gang talking about VHS tapes then there's really no replacement for that. they're the most panel review of the big found footage groups and a lot of the draw is their conversations and group interaction found footage fest is similar but joe and nick don't have the charisma that rlm has and they orient their thing as more of a stage show tv carnage is the original compilation of bizarre vhs stuff - no real commentary, just stuff edited together in a sort of documentary format by derrick beckles. casual fridays is probably his best video everything is terrible is the most prolific and weird of the groups that work with old VHS stuff. they cut everything into long, bizarre narratives. EIT 2: tokyo drift is the best, but also notable is doggie woggie poochie woochie which is a shot for shot remake of the film holy mountain made out of movies about dogs. the live shows they put on are completely insane and absolutely worth attending. they're currently trying to build a pyramid in the desert to house 14,000 copies of the film jerry macguire on VHS there are probably other groups of nerds talking about old tapes on youtube but they're probably horrible and unfunny boner confessor fucked around with this message at 04:19 on Dec 15, 2016 |

I tried to watch some godzilla movies that godzilla people say are good. All of them were sort of boring monster bits stretched out between the worst acting and human plot-b's. Although really the lovely human stuff is the A-plot and the monster fights are the B plot. Also every godzilla either has a message of "humans are bad and destroying the earth and make wars, atoms are specially bad and we deserve what we get for the hubris of atoms" or "Japan is the most specialist islands in the world and godzilla is bound to it via our pure japanese blood, godzilla is angry because americans, or non-traditional japanese values, but once again japan is a victim of outside forces despite our unique blood and history. PS Japan did nothing wrong in 'The War of American Atomic Aggression'"

FedEx Mercury posted:I'm just agog at anybody who still owns tapes. Why you wouldn't have thrown all that poo poo in the garbage 15 years ago boggles the mind. i went through kind of a VHS phase when I was all nostalgic for my childhood spent renting 4 vhs tapes at a time from the mom n' pop video store. LIke I'd rent great poo poo like Videodrome, They Live, Dawn of the Dead, the entire Fawlty Towers series, and so I wanted to relive that old feeling and I still have an old Sony VCR with a ton of tapes. But the other day I tried watching a VHS tape and it was loving garbage and pan-and-scan. You see like half of an actor's face, or see them talking to nobody, then you get tracking errors and the colors look like muddy diarrhea. Plus even all the weird old poo poo from the 80's like Chopping Mall is getting released on blu-ray all the time now. Still not throwing those tapes or my VCR away though, gotta watch my Night Court

It's kind of quaint, you keep stuff like that around because of the memories. like for most of my childhood I watched the Star Wars trilogy on two recorded VHS tapes (we had a bunch of those since my mother worked at a BASF facility), where the first one also had that "making of" documentary. They're probably still somewhere in my parents' house, and they probably look and sound like utter garbage, but it's a nice childhood memory, like an old schoolbook, drawing or a photo.

You're goddamn right (think the change was sometime in Empire), and the volume on the TV was changed sometime in Empire (and you see the volume bars on the screen) and the channel was accidentally changed at one point as well (think during Jedi). e: Wait read that wrong. Actually the documentary and the first Star Wars and then some of Empire came on the first tape, then change and most of Empire and Jedi on the second.
