Taking the ball out of Mudiay's hands and letting Harris and Jokic do more of the passing has done wonders. Over the last month Mudiay has dropped to under 2 TO per game, which is huge for him. I don't believe he has any real future as a starter but at least it's minimizing his damage

I don't believe he has any real future as a starter but at least it's minimizing his damage Hes a perfect second unit guy. I don't even think he's that bad with the ball in his hands either, he just needs experience. They have the same issue as the Sixers where there's just too many young guys and they're waiting for a middling team to pull the plug on one of their overpaid guys. Right now the Nuggets are running a really basic 1 in 4 out offense where someone brings it up the court and either feeds it to Jokic in the high post or Harris on the wing. They're setting a lot of low box and high box screens to spring Harris or Mudiay on a pick. Gary Harris: https://3ball.io/gary-harris-layup/0021600417_438 https://3ball.io/gary-harris-layup/0021600404_24 Mudiay: https://3ball.io/mudiay-layup/0021600417_9 https://3ball.io/mudiay-layup/0021600417_314 They're also doing some classic nuggin and running a fast break with Faried, Murray, and Barton. Faried: https://3ball.io/murray-layup/0021600426_130 https://3ball.io/faried-assist/0021600246_168 Barton: https://3ball.io/will-barton-running/0021600426_429 https://3ball.io/will-barton-running/0021600426_167 Murray: https://3ball.io/Murray-running/0021600365_440 https://3ball.io/Murray-running/0021600304_246 And then of course their older pieces slow the game down a lot with Gallinari, Nelson, and Chandler. Lots of high screens and isos: Danilo: https://3ball.io/danilo-gallinari/0021600417_69 https://3ball.io/danilo-gallinari/0021600417_324 Chandler: https://3ball.io/wilson-chandler/0021600426_10 https://3ball.io/wilson-chandler/0021600426_41 Nelson: https://3ball.io/Jameer-Nelson/0021600426_77 https://3ball.io/Jameer-Nelson/0021600417_370 So the question is which offensive identity do you want? Are you trying to run a potentially elite but young PnR with Harris and Jokic, a high octane unit with Barton/Murray/Faried, or a slow it down offense with some vets? All of these players mix together into the first unit which causes some weird spacing issues. Faried likes to sit in the middle of the paint which forces Jokic to have an extra guy in front of him in the high block. Chandler likes isos but it takes away passing from Harris or Mudiay or Nelson. Nelson's a great 3 ball shooter but he obviously can't spark plug an offense. Barton/Faried are both on surprisingly friendly deals in this cap era that could make them potential targets in a trade to a contender, which is great, but would get rid of a two pieces in a potent fast break. Plus Faried is a pretty decent passer too. Galinari is probably gone next year which might be a hidden boon for them. He's a black hole on offense even though he offers them a decent threat behind the 3 point line and on high arc drives. Doltos fucked around with this message at 17:20 on Dec 21, 2016 |

Simmons wrote an entire column on "unicorns" and what makes them special. Within the first couple of paragraphs you will learn that Michael Jordan wasn't a "true unicorn" but Bird was, because there could be another hyper athletic scorer like MJ one day, never another player like Bird though. Also, Anthony Davis is just modern day Kevin McHale! Simmons is such a poo poo writer.

I'm not sure I can stomach another Simmons article after reading about half of his boogie fan fiction, but are we just ignoring the fact that Durant is a better version of Bird already? Or, even if you don't like that comparison and need a white guy, Gordon Hayward is basically the same guy just a little worse across the board? gently caress it, slow work day, I'm going to go try to read it and report back.

Simmons says McHale is a true unicorn, which is defined as someone we'll never see again. Davis is not a true Unicorn because we've seen him before in McHale. Hmm. Giannis is a true unicorn because he does completely unique things. The things are so unique and to prove it, I'll compare him to Magic Johnson 20,000 times. Hmm.
