Past that, the main sources of Instant Death resistance are:

Just bail if it looks like it's missing several key things like hastega, medica, etc, until you get a well balanced group. But check out the discord. It's rad.

No one bringing supports? People bringing awful hones and default soul breaks? Just bail out and find a different group. I've found it to be extremely helpful to bring my own healer for my backline (Aeris with BSB) so I don't have to rely on other people as well. I've one shot ever one so far except Haukke by using ditching groups that didn't look like they were going to cut it. I'll definitely have to check the discord though.

I had a pubbie team that had no right to win the easier Gilgapocalypse, but did so anyway. The loving healer spammed power breakdown and didn't use their medica until the last turn.

Gil Turtle's counter is dumb garbage that doesn't care if you own 3 pairs of Cloud's goggles but gently caress him I still beat it eventually with some S/L and because Lifesiphon/SBs can't miss. In hindsight tauntaliate probably shuts down his counters entirely.LornMarkus posted:Yeah I still remember when I was in the BE thread and some guy just popped up saying he'd dropped like ninety or a hundred dollars and hadn't gotten what he wanted, then popped back up ten minutes later saying he dropped another ninety and still hadn't gotten what he wanted. Just loving surreal. "I spent a hundred dollars on this banner" is not a whale. "I spend a hundred dollars on every banner" is more what game developers mean when they use the whale label. Whales don't spend hundreds per year, they spend thousands if not tends of thousands when you start dealing with the wealthy/crazy whales. Or that guy who stole millions from his employer and spent one million dollars on Game of War.

Like a lot of record keeper's V content, though, these gil turtles are positively tame compared to the original game. But yeah, if you don't bring drawtaliate you're going to have a bad time.

drat, I didn't think of Drawtaliate for the Gil Turtles either. Oh well, my strategy of Faris breaking it down and stacking Protectga/Trueblade of Legend worked fine. Especially since you get two free turns to heal up at the start of every battle as long as you don't attack it, and since SBs can't be countered.

That makes sense to me, the sunk cost fallacy combined with the desire to feel like they've won at something, even a silly phone game, seems like it'd be pretty dangerous.

It's functionally the same as gambling and casinos make an enormous amount of money on poor or middle income people who go there and blow a couple hundred bucks and then leave. Mobile games are debatably more dangerous because you can gamble any time you want as many times as you can afford on a phone game gacha without having to haul your rear end to a legal casino.

So I started back at the end of November, and slowly powering up. Looking forward to orbfest, and got enough mythril for 4 rolls coming up (planning on 2 on osb banner 1 and 2 on ff xiv). Managed to get galuf's gauntlet and bartz's cape + excalibur off 1 11 pull too. Got some of the 4* breaks, and life siphon. Its fun seeing a team slowly forming. If I get on discord sometime, is it possible to get goons to carry my rear end through some of the multi for the rewards?

Sort of, but one of the things I've been discussing with therapists/people in general is that there's a secondary risk factor involving flow states, with the gaming/gambling model. Generally speaking, flow states=getting in the zone, etc., produce huge amounts of feel-good chemicals and involve any time you feel both highly skilled and what you are doing is highly challenging. Thing is(and this is key), you have to have a perception of being able to accomplish what you're doing to generate flow. And addiction, generally, is about getting a big, inordinate rush from anything+predisposition factors-super simply, that's how the disease model works. Gaming goes for what I'm seeing as "artificial" flow states-fooling people into thinking they're accomplishing something skillful through various means-in a lot of weird ways, and mobile does it the most skeevy way of all, by making you shell out. You've literally sacrificed for your win. It's a little disturbing, put that way. (So sue me, I just got off a Peer Support Specialist training. I'm into this stuff.) The solution is to just support games that aren't too horrible about it. RK is pretty nice and paying to win is fairly hard-you still need your brain, or at least some strategies you've ripped off of Reddit.

I'm torn on the Celerity Nightmare. Choosing to pull here would not impact OSBFest, XIV-1, XIII-2, or Tactics planning, but would put a dent in the nest egg reserved for 2nd Anniversary banners. It's a tough choice between hoping to add coverage on more characters and realms, versus saving for pulls on gear I'd use for Diff 200+ bosses. Pros: 7/9 OSB/BSB are for characters for whom I have only default SBs. 10/16 SSB are for characters for whom I have only default SBs 2 BSB and 2 SSB would be upgrades over current SSB/SBs 14/25 relics are for realms in which I have poor physical RS (II, IV, VII, X, XII, XIV) A strong Thief relic would give reason to create Mug Bloodlust Cons: Full-Price Power Creep is Getting Steep (Torment, etc) 4 Dupes (albeit 2 would be useful dupes due to weak RS) Would appreciate an outside perspective!

It's a 100% chance at at least a ssb, with very few characters to get hosed by. Also with very decent offensive and debuffing ssb's, with very nice bsb's inluded. It's worth a pull. I got 2 stacking debuff ssb's for a couple thieves, and shadow's bsb. Theives are gonna get really drat good soon. Wind bite and the poison version will be very nice elemental attacks, as well as do nutty damage with a dagger.

The OSB Fest banners are a tough call when I consider my needs/wants and existing relics: B1 - 4 great items, 2 very good, 1 ok, and 2 dupes (Tiara, Thyrus) B2 - 5 great items, 3 very good, and 1 dupe (SG) B3 - 5 great items, 4 very good B4 - 2 great items, 2 very good, 4 ok, and 1 dupe (Ninurta) B5 - 1 great item, 3 very good, 4 ok, and 1 dupe (Onion Gauntlets) Right now I'm leaning towards 1 pull on B1 and B2, and up to 2 pulls on B3. So yeah, if I pull on the Celerity Lucky it will just be one 11x, and then cross my fingers at least 1 of the non-dupes.
