I have one question for mr hyperdevbox guy: Is your goal (please only select 1 or 2 but not both) 1. To make money and run a business 2. To make the game of my dreams! I'm going to suspect your goal all along has been #2 and there hasn't much thought put into 1#. Realize you can't have #2 without #1. You are failing spectacularly at #1. This is objectively true. The only solution you have to make your dreamgame is to pay the 250K yourself because no one else wants it. My proof is: $717 USD raised by 19 backers 0% of $240,000 fixed goal Countdown until cognitive dissonance and denials... Well that's already started.

Okay here's your first problem: I started watching your little video about the game and ended up skipping around it for a minute, laughing at the 'cutscene' thing of a bunch of characters appearing very briefly (It literally looks like a game released on the PS1 in 1997 or so, like we're talking Suikoden without any of that game's charm), and then closing it. Realtalk; I don't give a gently caress. And that's bad. Because I'm the kind of shitbird you should be able to expect to be very interested. I love games from the era you're trying to emulate, I'm into Revolutionary France as an era, I like SRPGs. I'm the platonic loving ideal of your target audience. And you have nothing here that sells me on this game. You have nothing here that says "Wow this game mite b cool, I'll see if I can spare $30 (lol) to back it, it could pan out into something I really enjoy.". Your intro video is not the time to talk about minutiae like taking eight damage or the ruffles on the heroine's dress or whatever the poo poo. That stuff should be in your crowdfunding campaign, but it's for down the line when you're working on the game in earnest and want to maintain interest and buzz among your backer community. Right now you need to be able to put out a short, snappy video that operates on the principle of "show don't tell", and if you can't do that then you're not ready to launch your crowdfunding campaign. You've raised $717 bucks in a day, from a measly 19 people. And you've been sitting at that for hours. That's so pathetic that you should really pull the campaign down right this instant and take the time to implement a new one. Yes, you're at a disadvantage because you're not a big name studio. Obsidian raised their $1.1 million objective in under 24 hours for Pillars of Eternity, and that's a loving insane amount of money. But people know who Obsidian and Josh Sawyer are; we trust them to know how to make a modern isometric RPG like Baldur's Gate, and a whole lot of fans of New Vegas were willing to pitch in as well. Yooka-Laylee raised £175k (Not far short of your $240k objective) in thirty-eight minutes. Shenmue III hit $2mil in eight god drat hours. And you need to comprehend that you do not have this luxury. Nobody knows you from Adam. We don't have fond memories of your PS1 releases in the 90s. We don't remember your names scrolling by on a Credits roll after finishing something we still emulate today. On the other hand a lot of us have in fact been hungry for good SRPGs because it's been a long drat time since games like Front Mission 3 or Vandal Hearts, and you're still failing to excite or interest any of us. Figure out your elevator pitch - SRPG set in Revolutionary France, okay, cool, I'm actually down with that in principle - and then figure out how to turn that pitch into an enticing video. What's going to make people share this on FB or link to it in their Discord channels or whatever? Yelling about how we don't understand ~your vision~ doesn't matter a drat bit. Your studio could be the medium's loving Rembrandt but if you can't get us on board without having to clarify and argue on this dead gay forum, let alone anywhere else online, then you've already failed. e; Also you need to redesign some of your characters. Armandine is fine, but Leandre makes me want to punch him right in the mouth until he needs wooden teeth, and Leonce the Ponce genuinely looks like he eats poo poo. Isn't IGG usually not a good place for games of that budget anyway? I remember reading that it's incredibly rare for a high ask game to succeed there, I think the only ones that ever reached that range were the LabZero games and they were like working with the IGG staff to promote it, and their second game needed an extension anyway, and this is from a fairly well known studio that has a good reputation and a dedicated fanbase. Like it or not, KS is where the money is, barely anyone looks at IGG so your campaign will barely get any exposure and statistically people spend less money on that site so having a high buy-in won't do you any favors.

hyperdevbox posted:The battle system is a regular turn base system so player have a certain amount of action point that you can use to do certain action, should it be for moving your character, do an attack, use an item etc...., during the moving phase of your character, you do select by point and click the full path that your character will follow unlike most of jrpgs where only the destination grid-square is important and not the path itself. In thermidor as you will be building your path, our “Dynamic Awareness System” will analyze in realtime the most dangerous grid square, on your path, where you can potentially be seen and interrupted by one or many surrounding enemies based on their faculty to be aware of what is happening in the game field, enemies who will then, based on the resolution formula, initiate, or not, an action break attack on your character as you are moving on your path, the probability to be detected will be displayed to the player as a probability percentage before the validation of the path, so you will be able to try and experiment different scenario. As any other jrpgs, Thermidor will have items, like armors, weapons and others that will of course affect your hit damage, your health, your strength, your speed and also help you to make your enemies "less aware" of your presence. One of the specificity of Thermidor is that weapons (and so skills attached to a weapon) are not dedicated to a character but all characters can develop the ability to use a certain weapon by practicing it, finally, one character after receiving a big hit damage for example, could drop his current weapon in the game field (you will be able also to give your weapon to another member of your party who has more ability with that weapon to do a better accurate attack). While any weapon (or any dropped item) is on the game field, any characters (or enemies) could decide to pick it up and use it, eventually against you. To answer why would you like to use a sword against a gun..well if you have a better experience practicing the sword then you can do greater damage than using a gun but you will need to be closer, also, sword can do multiple hit based on your speed, while gun/riffle will just shoot 1 bullet (but you can shoot from a greater distance), however the greater the distance, the less accurate your shoot will be. Thanks for answering my questions. Can you post a video or a series of screenshots showing this in action?

The trick to crowd funding is to work the right crowd. This 2008 article gives winning tips on finding, engaging with, and selling to that market. http://www.aol.com/article/2008/02/08/oregon-beggars-pull-in-300-per-day/1110192/ As a HUGE bonus it will really help the dev team get into the proper state of mind for a French Revolution game. I was actually looking forward to this game's crowdfunding campaign because I liked the idea of revolutionary France JRPG, but this first showing is not inspiring any confidence. I'd need to see a lot more gameplay footage before I'd consider paying into this.

Have any of you guys googled "Thermidor JRPG"? There are a handful of brief, poorly received forums threads by Ron, including one which was just a copy-paste from another website (with the other website's name intact), and a handful of press releases that no one ever read. If I'm being extremely generous, maybe 2,000 people have heard of this game through their social outreach, which includes everyone that clicks on the link, sees nothing of interest, and leaves. Which makes their quarter million dollar price point hilarious. This could be the best loving game ever and it still wouldn't reach the goal, since they've done the equivalent of posting fliers around a small town and have received a similar response. How the gently caress did they seriously expect to get funded here?
