The result is that Marvel now has several women, who would fit the premier spot in the limelight far better than Carol, but she's the one everyone should celebrate, because we are told so after CW 2.

I read the 2014 series and that was a tough one to jump into having never followed the character or read old Avengers. Also, from what I always heard about her I thought energy manipulation and absorption was going to be a major factor in her fights but in that series she came off as really generic. Like if you saw a How To Draw Comics book and on the cover is some off-brand hero who's flying and shooting a beam out of their fist because that's short hand for "superhero".

In the Wood series, she talks about how she fought Klaw, and she discovered the energy he shoots is a kind she can adsorb, so as he kept shooting her, she just kept absorbing more and more of him until Klaw was nothing but his little dish hand thingy.

Didn't she end up being charged with murder for that, or was it a different hero that absorbed Klaw?

Lurdiak posted:That certainly didn't help, but the bigger problem is that during KSD's entire run it felt like Carol kept the reader at a distance. You didn't really get a sense of who she is, or what drives her. It felt like coming in at season 5 of a long running series where everyone assumes you understand the premise already. Except it was supposed to be a new-reader friendly relaunch of the character. She knows all these people and you have no idea who the gently caress they are or what their relationship really is, she has all this history as a hero and as a pilot that's treated like you should know it all already. And considering that the last time the character had a solo book the only thing the writer could think to do is to make her go through an unending identity crisis, that's really not great for returning readers either. I agree with the points made in the first paragraph and would add that it definitely didn't help that her first arc was being sent into space and not interacting with the rest of the main marvel u cast at all which is really weird for new reader relaunch about "earth's mightiest hero" imo Tbf i would disagree with the comparison to kamala because she was literally a brand new character so of course we're gonna to be following her from day one, not a jumping off point for someone who already had 30? years of garbage backstory weighing them down site fucked around with this message at 21:58 on Dec 31, 2016 |

Teenage Fansub posted:Yo. Someone get me ready for USAvengers by broadly spoiling all of ANAD New Avengers, please If you want a slightly more detailed version than has been given: Because the Avengers as a concept were kinda hosed after Secret Wars, Sunspot set up his own version using AIM resources, but because AIM are still sorta terrorists, he's not allowed to operate on US soil. Also SHIELD send a spy to keep an eye on him, except Dum Dum Dugan and Clint Barton both immediately tell Roberto that it's Clint. Except it's actually not, it's Songbird, but she's also really a double-secret-quarduple agent infiltrating SHIELD for Sunspot. They mostly fight the Maker, including some one-upmanship where Reed bugs the NA's base, but Pod had a counter for it the first time he tried, so then they let it work the second time and fed him disinformation. In the meantime they fought a space demon because Hulkling is space King Arthur and has a magic sword now. Only the demon snuck into Wiccan and slowly corrupted him until a team of future Avengers led by Luke Cage and Jessica Jones' daughter show up to kill him, but then Billy fights back inside his mind and banishes the demon because of Twue Wuv. Then Pleasant Hill and CW2 happen and the government decide to attack AIM, first with a kaiju that gets beaten by the Avengers' giant robot, (I think this is where Songbird reveals she's with SHIELD by passing info to Daisy when they break Rick Jones out of SHIELD custody), and eventually they break up the team with most of them going to the Savage Land to meet up with secret member Cannonball, while Wiccan, Hulkling and Squirrel Girl stay behind and are disavowed so they don't get charged with treason, and Hawkeye and Songbird stay because they're SHIELD. Only Songbird gets poo poo on because of CW2 as Ulysses predicts she'd be at Sunspot's funeral, and crazy John Garret (cyborg SHIELD man) forces her to break cover and then reprograms LMD Dum Dum to be a baddie. So that leads to a 3 way battle royale at the AIM base where Pod gets killed, but the lady inside the suit survives, Toni Ho becomes a new Rescue because I think she's still Yinsen's daughter in the post-SW world, and the Maker's evil Avengers get their butt's kicked by their counterparts: The magic guy gets out magicked by Wiccan, the rat guy gets beat by Squirrel Girl, etc, and then the evil computer gets it's rear end handed to it by Sunspot and Warlock teaming up. Once that's done, to make peace with the US government, Roberto agrees to root out all the baddies in AIM, first by faking his death (hence the funeral) to draw out the head honchos like Monica Rapuccini who then get taken out by the NA. Then the team splits up to take out the random beekeeper cells, except for Wiccan and Hulkling who get an apartment from 'Berto because And now AIM works for the guy who made the American Kaiju and Thunderbolt Ross has his powers back somehow tl;dr: Manatee Cannon posted:
