I don't know how I missed this: The world's first levitating turntable! https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/245727224/mag-lev-audio-the-first-levitating-turntable/ https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/mag-lev-audio-the-first-levitating-turntable-vinyl#/ It appears they launched the indiegogo after the kickstarter so they could sell premium versions of it, and also sell the DUST COVER, which is kinda an important feature of a turntable. Let's see how much the DUST COVER will set you back: I can't wait to see reviews of this thing.

I really wonder how well that levitating turntable would actually work. I've seen some other commercial levitating products, like that Back To The Future DeLorean and they seem to take some work to align the levitated object in a stable position over the magnets. Maybe the little legs will help prevent it from wobbling off when starting but I would definitely take any claims of anti-vibration and touch and push tolerance with a grain of salt. That said, if it does remain stable, loving scratch that poo poo.

I wonder if the fact that the needle's going to be riding over the record does anything to help keep it stable? As well as the fact that it's going to be rotating, which is generally easier to keep centered then something more stationary. What I'd like to see is to slap the Kickstarter with the little car-like holder for a needle that drives along a record to play it, placed on top of the levitating turntable, the one that was posted about earlier this month: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pinkdonut/rokblok-a-new-spin-on-vinyl

That might be mildly useful as part of a larger inventory management system at a newspaper or some agency with many professional photographers.

That's a bit disingenuous, if you actually stock a bag for work it can be very easy to overlook small items. I mean sure, there's probably a market in nerds who absolutely don't need it, but Id hardly call those things awful.

Seriously - for any professional who has to take expensive gear with them to do a job, that's pretty much a godsend. Photographer is clearly the prime example, but I can think of a lot of people in specialist engineering/science roles who have to do field work that this would be perfect for. I do understand though that there will be people who want to use it on their their phone/keys/wallet/watch/sunglasses. Those people are loving idiots.

I lost count of how many mud knives and channel locks I left in units because I put them down before lunch and ended up having to go to some other property on the other side of town. That's mostly because I'm a spacey gently caress though. And at least I never lost any of my actual expensive tools.

"Cheap towels won't stay soft after a only few washes and fray apart easier." ...I have towels that are close to a decade old and are still soft. Pretty sure I didn't pay much at the Target where I bought them. Then again my towels haven't been used by samurai therefor they lack the weeb factor of these. Then again, the last time I bought towels I got them at Costco and I'm pretty sure I spent less than $30 despite getting several towels that are huge and fluffy as hell.

I thought this one could have been neat until i read the description. I assumed it was some sort of gps enabled rock that would vibrate or something if you walked too far off course. Since it only lights up it seems worse than an actual map on a smart phone that can give you more than some vague "yes/no" flashing light for information about your trip. And if you need a glowing rock to look at while you walk around your neighborhood are you really going to be sightseeing and not staring at your goddamn light up, bluetooth enabled pet rock?
