Nostalgia4Infinity posted:Ok I was wondering why some of my friends who are federal employees were freaking out this morning. Federal employees have been in full meltdown mode since Trump won. Everyone I know who works for the government has either left or is packing their poo poo. Apparently there has been a number of not nicely worded resignation letters that were cc'ed to congressional reps. Witch hunts and some real lovely stuff started going down literally the day after the election. None of this should surprise anyone. But if you enjoy schadenfreude keep watching. Because the GOP is going to cut a bunch of jobs and pay/benefit cut more to the point they won't have enough civil service employees to run basic poo poo and their house of cards will crumble. It's literally a race between nuclear baptism and government collapse. Unless someone really fucks up and we kickstart Bastille Day: US edition. Which personally gets my vote. I'm all for dragging some rich people out into the street and beheading them.

holocaust bloopers posted:Has a president-elect ever caused so much poo poo before taking office? Under the political norms that had been around for a really god drat long time there was an informal policy of "only one president". Yes the outgoing guy was a lame duck, and yes you could announce your cabinet, grand stand with your base, promise what you were going to do when you got in power etc. etc. but you accepted that there would be a peaceful transfer of power and until then you didn't start poo poo on the other guy's watch. He was in the office, you weren't. Perfectly followed to the absolute letter in every single last circumstance ever throughout history? No. It was more of a gentleman's agreement and a standing guideline that everyone followed for the stability of the nation so that when you were on the way out the door yourself there could, again, be a peaceful transfer of power for the continuation of the republic. Right wing lunatics have been taking over for years now and all over the map, from Executive Office on down to local elections, norms like this are breaking down because it's become party and power first, country and institutions get hosed.

I mean, we all know how lovely it's going to be, even the people that voted for Trump (and there are a lot of them in my office, generic Republicans basically) are all cracking anti-Trump jokes along with the rest of us liebrul folk. What was REALLY strange was what happened a few years ago during the government shutdown, with Republicans in congressional control. The general rule is that you pay the laid-off feds during a government shutdown, basically giving them free vacation days, because it wasn't their fault the government couldn't pass appropriations. I didn't think for a MINUTE that the Republicans in Congress would pay the laid-off feds, but I was completely wrong. We ended up getting paid for about three days until the administration took a very creative read of the Pay Our Military Act and then we were back to work like two weeks before other feds. Basically, everyone in the government got paid for doing literally nothing, but we weren't sure at the time if we were going to get paid for doing literally nothing. facialimpediment fucked around with this message at 22:27 on Jan 5, 2017 |

Texas’ Other Death Penalty https://www.texasobserver.org/a-galveston-med-student-describes-life-and-death-in-the-safety-net/ quote:Perry’s refusal is catastrophic health policy. For patients, it means that seeking medical care will still require risking bankruptcy, and may lead nowhere. For doctors, the message was not only that our patients’ lives don’t matter, but also that medicine—our old profession, so full of people who genuinely want to help others—will continue to be part of the economic machine that entrenches poverty. When the poor seek our help, they often wind up with crippling debt.

Yes. Everything he does will be monitored and every step he takes will be escorted by 6 guards. His entire life will be lived inside of a 10X10 cell with a solid door or be conducted while surrounded by people who only care about his survival because his death is a entire digit downgrade on their next EPR.

At best, prosecutions for violations of laws and/or changes in the law to make such activities illegal if they happen again in the future. (assuming they pass constitutional muster) Unless it's proved that the actual voting machines were hacked to delete or not count Clinton votes or add Trump votes, the election will not be nullified. What provision of law provides for nullifying a presidential election?

I suppose if the president-elect and vice president-elect were both found guilty of a crime that would lead to impeachment upon entering office, and the political party they represented in the election ceased to exist, then the election would probably have to be recalled because literally no one would be left on the winning side to take the reins.

If anything is going to change it's going to be from corruption / conflict of interest issues that are too big for even the republicans to ignore. Who knows if anything will happen, or that if it does, it will pass that threshold. I wouldn't bank on it.

Two Finger posted:i guess what keeps running through my mind is why are the russians interfering and why is trump fighting so hard to stop them being looked at? Well, look at the two sides: The people claiming Russian interference is the BIG GOVERNMENT that's always ruining everything and a party of sore losers who don't represent real Americans. The people being attacked for benefiting from Russian interference is the guy who promised to bring back your lovely coal job and fix all of your problems, his cronies who are going to grift a gorillian dollars from the economy, and the conservative assholes who have been salivating at the possibility of destroying anything that doesn't benefit super-rich assholes. So, absolutely loving nothing is going to happen because the people in power aren't going to implicate themselves and the people who do care are going to get shouted down by Twitter and a news media focused on eyeballs-on-stories that will happily drop the subject when Trump tweets about something else.
