State treasurer perhaps? im thinking of having majority and minority leaders for each state legislature who basically control their lege parties. Players will be able to spend money/power to campaign for the NPC legislature, so basically an indirect election. After an election, say the GOP wins 60% of state lege in a state, then the GOP majority leader of state lege will be able to propose and pass bills... unless theirs a dem gov who vetoes them! It'll add 2 or 3 positions per state, instead of hundreds, and add a level of state politics. if the game suddenly gets 10,000 players then ill add full state legislatures lol

Effectively being a 1 party state should give a huge boost to 3rd parties until one of them also reigns supreme.

You get the basic functionality, but leave the door open for expansion if there's demand.

I've been thinking about some of the forces that work against a party staying in complete control. They obviously aren't necessarily in balance, as some places are able to keep things locked down. One interesting thing to try and model is how accountability is a huge pain in the rear end, and give politicians the ability to dodge it. Suppose there's a riot at a state prison, that'd normally be a big problem for the Governor and the legislature, but if the prison is run by a private contractor, then at least part of the blame goes to the company, allowing the elected officials to dodge responsibility. I guess what I'm getting at here is that there are many ways to deal with a crisis. If a state run hospital has problems, you could fix it, or sell the hospital. Either one resolves the issue to some extent.

Are policy speeches the only way to shift positions? I chose kind of poorly starting out, not realizing how important they were. The -10 influence is rough to build up and then burn off to shift a single step.
|
# ? Jan 10, 2017 01:33 |
Yeah, give speeches until you're below 10%. You're already in a cheap state, so just keep cycling between 0-10% until you have the positions you want (if you were in a more expensive state I'd recommend moving to WY to cycle positions). Including the 10 TV ads, it'll cost a total of about 30 power and $1-2k per speech. As always, ask the dem discord if you run out of money. The only other way to switch positions right now is to vote on bills in the senate, but you aren't likely to get there if your positions don't already match your state.
