Thoguh posted:It was mostly his ready reserve of talking points and links. Also it is funny to think that some poor schmuck was tasked with this dead gay forum. considering i work closely around astroturfing: a) posts readied links prepared by a single source with a key phrase or association to use with the link b) respond directly to something with prepared disengagement c) never argue back if you'll lose unless - d) you get into a semantics war that can make the original person look bad and take down the visibility of the point you're trying to suppress e) most importantly, this is done through indexing/rss stuff so that they can pull into channels and handle everything. no one's gonna pick up sa on their content feeds. its not worth it to do ctr-level stuff on a dead gay forum, but on places like reddit and news article comments, its well worth the money. its a total wash to do it in a political forum when you can have dummies do it for free (reddit included). also, astroturfing is mostly done to handle negative perception of products (like recalls/defects) or to prepare core audiences for product drops and stuff. again, wasted mostly on politics unless done in a very targeted manner. hope yall learned something. in case you're wondering, the most astroturfed place in the universe is reddit.com/r/worldnews iirc. the fracking industry was very, very big on astroturfing a couple years back.

Question, is anyone here actually of the opinion that someone they disagree with is a paid shill I see several people who appear to be under the impression that they are arguing with someone who thinks that, but not anyone who appears to actually think that

I believe there were people who believe Hillary had paid shills here because there were also people who thought The Onion was a Hillary propaganda outlet.

for real Mitt Romney is the only person I think might have actually been some kind of shill and this is entirely due to a combination of his weird posting style and complete disappearance at the time of the convention. even then i'd never actually commit to it.

Yeah, even then it seems way more likely to have just been a gimmick- I mean no one was paying Toblerone Triangular back in the day and he kept up a convincing front with much crazier political precepts for ages
