Adams seems like he's going to be a FS or a roaming CB at the next level. Hooker is still super raw and might spend his first season in the NFL getting burnt. Peppers is certainly not a linebacker and anyone who wants to play him up there will probably be disappointed. Tabor also might shift to FS and could be pretty great at it. Desmond King is also another name to look out for as he isn't going to test great but could be one hell of a strong safety if he puts on more weight. Anyway point is that the DBs aren't set in stone yet.

idk where the idea Peppers wasn't productive came from, as a sophomore he had 10 PBU as a safety, as a junior 16 TFL as a linebacker. He was big-10 defensive player of the year and linebacker of the year (also returner of the year) this past season

peppers is getting mocked around 10, there's no way he should stay. bucannon is a weird comparison, he went 27th overall as basically a project, he ended up adding like 30 lbs to play linebacker, but he also had the benefit of staying at safety for 4 years

I need to stay away from 49ers social media. The amount of people that want to take a QB at #2 overall because they think Kap is the biggest problem on the 49ers is actually making me angry.

Hiya Daltos - you may know me from discord and previous PMs. Long time follower of r/Daltos Who do you think Miami should target, value wise, at 22. Our positions necessary are OLB (Moreso a coverage LOLB, or someone who can set the edge. Basically a jack of all trades in our defense) CB (we are more zone press) DE (either side, Cam is old and Branch will get paid) OL (moreso a guard so Tunsil can flip to tackle so we may cut Albert) Whatcha think? I've only been looking at linebackers so I'm rather unsure of the rest.

Still too early to tell but based on this season some top coverage LBs: Tim Cunningham, Reuben Foster, Kendell Beckwith, Jarrad Davis, Ryan Anderson Zone CBs: Marlon Humphrey, Cordrea Tankersley, Adoree Jackson, Sidney Jones, Cameron Sutton DE: Tim Williams, Solomon Thomas, Derek Barnett, Carl Lawson, Charles Harris, Devonte Fields Guards: Roderick Johnson, Dion Dawkins, Tyrone Chowder, Zach Banner, Ethan Pocic

I think Peppers is going to have to have a role carved out for him, because what he can and can't do is kind of an awkward mix- what he does and doesn't do well in coverage is a problem. Kenny Vaccaro is a good model- the Saints have him playing as an in-the-box SS and a Slot CB/SAM hybrid. They have a dedicated single-high safety, so they can disguise the coverages well and keep offensive players in front of him in zone, and pick and choose their match-ups in man coverage, and then give him run fits/blitzes off of the edge. The safeties this year are interesting- there are a lot of interesting players but they need very specific scheme fits.

Kap just negotiated an opt-out clause in his contract. He's gone. If they think there's the right QB sitting there at No. 2 then they should probably go get him.

No, its absolutely a crazy suggestion that Kap was the biggest problem on the 49ers this year. Did you watch any games? Nowhere in my post was I saying he is part of our long-term plans. But with gaping holes on both offense and defense, throwing anyone other than a Luck/Manning type into that tire fire as a rookie is a recipe for disaster. I mean hell, even Luck has struggled a bit the last 2 years largely due to a complete lack of talent around him. What makes you think that any of the QB prospects this year would have any type of success behind that line and with those receivers?

Note that I'm not saying it's a good idea, but it's a less bad idea than we've seen in other cases.

Where do you even start with rebuilding the 49ers? That roster is completely devoid of talent and no candidate worth a drat will want to work under the sniveling turd that is Jed York. You can't draft a first-round quarterback to that team because they'll retire before their rookie contract is up.

Ardarius Stewart declared, which is unusual considering his draft grade but honestly another year of Jalen overthrowing him by ten yards isn't going to raise his stock. With how physical he plays someone's going to give him a shot, but where does this thread think he fits? Drafted? UDFA?

I'd be happy with him in the 3-5 range considering he looked like a very legitimate burner whether deep or across the field. I thought he had some garbage-rear end route running whenever people got in his face and pressed him, but that's a technical skill that can be learned fairly easy. He body-catches on too many <10 yard routes which I think is mainly him trying to keep the ball the gently caress away from defenders with Jalen's ball placement. He's like the anti-Cooper where he's raw on technical skill but was so physically dominant it didn't matter at points. If you develop him, he might be a better pro than Ridley considering he's more physically talented

depends on the player for me If it's adams, yayyy if it's Cam, yayyyy... but with reservations If it's fournette, ehhhh... If it's any LB or DT (Or possibly CB)... Boooooo Edit: And i'm not sure the assessment that "he falls in love" is fair since he's had only one season since he's been here where he's had a top 20 pick and he used it on the consensus top player at a position of need in the draft (star). I'm sure the offers on the playoff level draft picks were less than stellar. zimbomonkey fucked around with this message at 18:11 on Jan 12, 2017 |

zimbomonkey posted:You say luxury, I say insurance against two players that might leave. You don't need a high draft pick to trade down; the Patriots have proven this for 15 years. When the Panthers drafted Butler, they still had short and star under team control for two seasons. I mean I guess you can say that Davis could die at any second, but the Panthers still had him, plus plenty of good depth at the position. I'm not blaming him for not drafting a safety, and I kinda understand why he though the offensive line was okay, and he couldn't have anticipated kelvin would be fat as hell. But if the choice is trading down and getting SOMETHING, anything, or drafting players taht don't significantly contribute and become depth, well, that's an easy choice.

Alright, let's look at last year then. He takes butler 31st overall. Who should he have traded down to take? Where do those picks enter? Would we be waiting to see them this year? What round are they? Are there even any good players available at the picks we get? and most importantly, was anyone even offering to trade up? I don't recall many super hot commodities existing at 31. Also the logic behind Butler was sound too. We were losing massive leads in the fourth in part because our pass rush fell off a cliff. Makes perfect sense to add a really talented rotational piece at 31 there, that could help keep the starters fresh then potentially slot in as a future starter if short or star left. Also it's worth noting that the team immediately behind us had traded up to grab Paxton Lynch and there weren't any trades for like 8 picks after that, indicating that a lot of teams may have been happy with where they were positioned. Same with thompson. A versatile jack of all trades that comes in fitting the profile of an aging veteran is a good pick at 25. Now whether it may have been better to draft the top safety in the draft class, who was available, is a different conversation. But I don't think the trades were there in either case. There certainly weren't any coveted players available in either of these situations. Now let's look at this year by comparison. There will probably be a BUNCH of hot commodities available when our pick rolls around. Barnett, Fournette, possibly Adams, Robinson, a few second tier QBs begging to get overdrafted. I think if you get an opportunity to take a player top 10 you take it UNLESS there's a really good haul involved. I don't see that haul being offered at number 8. I'm talking at least one extra first here.
