For better or worse, Modesty Blaise is about to head into new territory:quote:After Jim Holdaway's death in 1970, the art of the strip was provided by the Spanish artist Enrique Badía Romero. Eight years later, Romero quit to make time for his own comics projects, and after short attempts by John Burns and Patrick Wright, Neville Colvin drew the strip until 1986. Then Romero returned to the job and continued until the end of the strip. In other words, we're about to enter the post-Romero years. You will notice the change in art style immediately - and I totally understand if you bail out as Burns steps in. He'll be taking the lead on only two stories, so we'll see how Patrick Wright works out soon enough. And now, without further ado, Yellowstone Booty:

Oh, boy, "Yellowstone Booty." I suppose it's not a terrible story for a comic strip from 1978 written by a British guy, but it's probably the only one of the lot that's got some poorly-aged racial politics.

I can't stop laughing at the last panel, though the first panel also reaches some new dimensions - like Bushmiller predicted this edit and therefore made Nancy look so wary.

Labor movements opposed it, counter-intuitive though that must sound, because of the belief that it discouraged class consciousness and made it easier for managers to justify low salaries by passing costs on to the customer. And they ended up being right about that. Modern tipping is little more than an extra informal tax at restaurants, which is why no one does it outside the United States. Tracksuit Yep, untranslatable pun. Horror translates pretty well though. It's All Right Chief Dharma I like Miss Han's deadpans. Never get to mention that, since they're never full punchlines. "Porn" doesn't really work because as was seen previously, the word in question more generally just means eroticisms, like good cleavage.

Tiggum posted:I'd never heard of this. I mean, I'd heard of the "Mayan calendar predicts the end of the world bit" but not the idea that the Mayans somehow disappeared without trace. So when I saw that comic it just struck me as a really weird question to even ask - they were conquered by Spain, that's what happened to them. So, according to shittily understood quotes across the late 20th century that alien theorists keep citing from each other, the Spanish just walked into Maya and found massive abandoned cities that hadn't been destroyed due to war, so therefore the Maya must have chosen to leave, and of course if they were predicting thousands of years in the future through the power of stars and math, then maybe they left for the stars!!!(???) Buy my book about why previous calculations on the end of the Mayan Long Count were miscalculated and it's actually taking place in January 2017.
