The question in this here thread is being asked, "is it ok to punch a literal nazi in the face" I should ask my grandma's brothers if it's ok. They got really good at it between 1940-1945, killing the nazi swine who occupied their country and sent their father to a concentration camp. I am of the opinion that all nazis should be punched, all the time. If you disagree with my opinion, well that's your right. But you're also wrong.

Yesterday the biggest protest for women's rights happened in 700 cities all over the world. The turnout was the largest for a protest in US history. In the US, there were no arrests. NONE. It was exactly the peaceful mass demonstration you loving liberals want. Today the US Congress put forth a bill To provide that human life shall be deemed to begin with fertilization. Basically a rework of a failed bill that would give full personhood to embryos. That means it overturns Americans' right to safe and legal abortions. Back into back alleys. Back to coat hangers and sepsis. Back to teenagers being forced to carry babies they don't want to term to live lives they would never have chosen given the loving choice. Women and children will see their quality of life severely lowered if they don't literally die if this bill passes. Less than 24 hours after this colossal, entirely peaceful demonstration. So, actually if you think that being peaceful is all it's going to take to maintain rights in this new age. Sometimes you have to fight and to fight you need more than words.

Yeah you're right, this guy's awful, definitely a white supremacist at the very least. I'd never heard of him before. I still don't think you should use violence to silence people but it should obviously be allowed to advocate violence against people who advocate violence wherever advocating violence is constitutional. Progressives. Progress. Baby steps. Don't punch white supremacists, black supremacists, any race supremacists, gender supremacists, sexuality supremacists or religious supremacists, it doesn't accomplish anything. What if some gay guy had suckerpunched punched Obama in 2009 for not supporting gay marriage? Would Obama have finally started supporting it in 2012? I wonder what Trump will soften on by the start of his second term.

Did you think it was a reasonable expectation that the Women's March would prevent the Republican Congress, Senate, and White House from proposing a huge chunk of awful legislation immediately after taking power? The argument against defending rights with violence is that if we demonstrate en masse peacefully enough, our political leaders will be so moved by our direct action that violence will not be necessary to defend those rights. I am literally seeing that argument in this thread. I am being asked to accept that, yes, this is reasonable. I loving don't accept that, obviously, but that is the liberal argument. Regardless if these bills come up all the time, the introduction of this bill at the federal level, after the largest protest ever in the US, flies directly in the face of that argument. And I specified no arrests in the US because THAT IS STILL loving SIGNIFICANT. Literally millions of people protested, not one was arrested and their rights may still be rolled back. So to recap: Millions of peaceful protesters asking for their rights to be respected: doesn't work Punching self-identified opressive reactionaries: OH THE HUMANITY, NO! At the Women's march in Toronto, Andrea Horvath was the only Ontario party leader to show up. I heard people asking, "Where's Kathleen Wynne?" When I explained it would probably be bad politics for the Premier of Ontario to protest against the leader of it's largest trading partner, there were some blank looks. It was a good protest, message got a little skewed at points IMHO (But it wasn't my place to voice an opinion on the message being a dude) and it was really nice seeing all the little kids and old ladies out. And I didn't see a single counter-protester (mind you they may have gotten buried in the crowd, it was loving huge, the lawn at Queen's Park got trashed) And punch all Nazis in their stupid Nazi faces.
