Since we are talking about mods and alphamod in particular, how does it handle the AI? So far that was my biggest problem with many mods I tried out, they had good ideas and it would work for me but the AI would get confused and in best case they would just ignore the new feature and in worst case the AI would break.

CrazyTolradi posted:Have you seen these impact sector AI in anyway? Yeah. My sector's have built up the new buildings. The AI seems capable of using the buildings on that front as well. Just keep in mind that the usual sector bugs are there. If you have robots on for instance they might not do anything. That has nothing to do with the mod though. I would suggest making some of the more unique specialist buildings on the planet yourself. Then making it so that tile redevelopment is turned off. That way there's no risk of a research or percentage bonus to one of the planet's resource outputs getting wiped out by the sector AI being a bit dim. It kind of sucks to have some massive research or energy producer get unoptimized because the sector AI isn't smart enough to understand that a 10% increase in all energy outputs to every building is more than a single power plant. Especially if you're fighting an uphill battle. Though, again, that's another issue that's not really the mod's fault. Archonex fucked around with this message at 05:59 on Jan 25, 2017 |

there's not a ton to say beyond the obvious; use frontier outposts to extend your wormhole reach, scout as much as you can but don't sweat not being able to map the galaxy, understand that your wormholes allow you to jump straight by someone's empire space if they're blocking you off. don't be afraid to build redundant wormhole stations because one station only requires 0.25 credits/mo to maintain. the only other non-obvious thing is that since your FTL method is offloaded onto stations, your ships will have extra energy that WOULD have gone toward a warp/hyper drive that you can instead use for shooting things or powering shields.

Deceitful Penguin posted:Any advice for wormhole species? Pat yourself on the back for choosing the best FTL type. You can build wormhole stations outside your own territory, you'll need to do this to keep your science ships active. Build a wormhole station in every system with an inhabited planet. Build redundancy into your network in case a station gets destroyed. Jump time scales with fleet size; if you need to move a big fleet fast, split it into chunks, and send them along parallel paths, reuniting at the destination. If you build wormhole stations at the extreme edge of the system, and along directions with no nearby systems, they're much less likely to be blown up by the AI. If one of your ships ever gets stranded outside the network for whatever reason, hit the Return button, and they'll go MIA for a bit, then reappear at the nearest owned planet.

Yeah, the first thing mentioned above is possibly the most important thing to know for a wormhole player and one that really changes the game when you learn it if you didn't know it from the start: You can build your stations outside your territory. You don't need to expand your empire (though obviously you'll want to do that too) to expand your range. Put stations in allied territory. Put them in uninhabited territory. Hell, if you're fighting someone, put them in enemy territory so you can jump to their more important insides and gently caress them up.

If you're playing hyperlanes or warp you can scout out a ton of the galaxy with a couple corvettes. The main positive of this is finding the science and trading enclaves, which are pretty big. As wormhole you have a much lower chance of finding them, since you'll need to build more warp stations. It is worth it to do that though, because the advantage of having either enclave is really huge (basically +15% research and an excellent 5-star scientist, and trading minerals/energy at a 2:1). I actually think enclaves are a bit too strong with the way they currently work. If they're inside the borders of an empire they should probably piggy-back relations to people outside that empire. Or some other method of propagating their contact out. In something like MoO where there is a galactic senate sort of thing you could spread it through that, or once a certain percentage/amount of territory is covered. The economy works out so much smoother when you have enclaves that they feel mandatory.

I'm really missing culture in the game. Does the species enjoy art, music or literature? Do they have a fascination with theater? Do they have a knack for opera? Does this repugnant species love to play recorders, and are totally tone deaf on top of it? It would be fun if we could set observation posts to a hunting grounds setting. Get to da choppa! Speaking of that, I had this horrible thought last night of a Stellaris Valentines Day thing which involved a mental image of a blushing Blorg, a little floating heart and a bouquet of what they think works just as well as flowers. In my defense I have a cold.

I hope you can combine that with other options, so you can render a species blissfully happy while it's being eaten. Can't have sad food running away, after all.

Loving the new granularity to play a utopian / dystopian society. Gives life to all kinds of fun scenarios. Imagine a race of genocidal purgers who are actually really sorry about their solemn duty to eliminate all other species, so rather than outright murder, they simply use mass sterilization and then hook the final generation of the species up to chem-induced euphoria machines as a sort of apology for removing the species and all their history from the galactic record.

I don't know if the mood altering pills from Equilibrium would necessarially stick people at 0% happiness, maybe just keep them at 50% so you never get any bonuses or any penalties but maybe they now really suck at research since they basically are stuck spending all day with a blank look on their face while they stare dead ahead.Truga posted:Is there any way to search for strategic resources on the map? Hey guys, since that Goon race pack never actually happened, I'm gonna throw my own together. Submit your custom empires now! Anyone who wants to contribute, feel free to post in this thread and include the words "SPECIES SUBMISSION" and then put the actual data for the race in pastebin or a code tag or something (I'm just gonna search through the thread later looking for those words and I don't want to miss yours). Also include a screenshot of the details if you want. Resubmitting your previous submissions is fine. I'm going to try to push this out by next Friday. Include a description or your entry will be REJECTED. You can get the data for your custom race from "Documents/Paradox Interactive/Stellaris/user_empire_designs.txt" GlyphGryph fucked around with this message at 21:08 on Jan 25, 2017 |
