I got the impression that Asha's mission was more mocking "serious" stealth games like Splinter Cell rather than Metal Gear (I don't think shooting out lights is even a thing in MGS), but it's been years so maybe I don't remember it fully.

The boss at the end with his rambling convoluted lecture and ~twist~ is very MGS, but yeah, it's trying to hit the entire covert ops genre.

Which again with the boss's willingness to play along feels more like a celebration of the silliness of the genre, while gta would've called you a stupid rear end in a top hat for playing those games and pat itself in the back while huffing its own farts

Why, yes, I do like Kirby games.
This would belong in the other thread, but one of my pet peeves is when games simultaneously deride and include a game element. It's not funny to talk about how sewer levels suck, but it's especially not funny to talk about how sewer levels suck in a sucky sewer level. If you're going to make the joke in the first place, have the protagonist refuse to go into the sewer or something.

For content: I've been playing Guild Wars 2 lately, and I love how organic the quests can get with all the different ways they show up. I just finished an hour-long chain of events that I found while trying to log a waypoint and was probably the most fun I've had doing an escort quest. (It helps that, by and large, the escortees were competent, and worst-case scenario I could revive them after clearing out the area.) And I didn't have to officially accept any quests or wait my turn to get my ten pristine frog ears or whatever; the first event in the chain was already in progress, and I just chipped in. Other players showed up at various parts, did what interested them, and wandered off.

Borderlands 2 is frustrating because it does get a lot of things right. Enough to keep you playing. But then there's... all of those other things. Yeah that, and that, and him. Yeah I don't wanna go into it right now.

L4D2 did that. Including lines such as:

Nick: I am breathing poo poo air into my lungs, it is being absorbed into my bloodstream. I am literally full of poo poo.

Ellis: Hey, I found a candy bar! (Beat) Whup. False alarm.

That sewer is nice in that it's literally just a single room with a ladder leading out. The area after it kind of sucks, though, because it really seems determined to poo poo all over you regardless of whether you set off an alarm or not.

Apparently its not an alternate universe exactly; The canon ending of Gat out of Hell is the one where the earth was recreated, and this is that earth.

My favorite little thing about the Nier demo is that the battle theme for the first Saw Blade Boss sounds a lot like "Song of the Ancients" without the vocals. I can't confirm if it actually is but there's a few mixes on youtube that add the audio to the song and it sounds almost identical.

Not to mention it sounds rad, you take a few "heroes" and run around with them switching on the fly as you do rad action sequences. The new Art Style is really cool too, less "ULTRA REALISM" more cell shadey / hand drawn goodness like invisible inc. (Idk what the word is for that is called.)

Best game in the Borderlands series, IMO.

It's because the math in the game actually has leveling up make you weaker. That is the opposite of an RPG!

GTA vanishing up its rear end happened after the Hot Coffee scandal blew up, it's almost kind of tragic how the media and legal pushback against that seems to be what made them so unbearably cynical and hateful about everything and why they're so fixated on being serious and delivering cutting commentary at the expense of fun.

Also why Red Dead Redemption was entirely about how stupid and worthless the federal government of the US is and how it ruins everything.

I'm pretty sure there's a part where an exclamation point pops up over a guard's head. I know there's a part where you literally get under a cardboard box and sneak around though.

Which Dan Hauser Presents: Rockstar Games cutscene did I just describe?

I'm probably misremembering since it's been years since I played it, but I could've sworn CJ had some degree of agency in San Andreas since that game had the whole revenge plot.
