What are is the Democratic Socialists of America? From their website. The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) is the largest socialist organization in the United States, and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. DSA's members are building progressive movements for social change while establishing an openly democratic socialist presence in American communities and politics. At the root of our socialism is a profound commitment to democracy, as means and end. As we are unlikely to see an immediate end to capitalism tomorrow, DSA fights for reforms today that will weaken the power of corporations and increase the power of working people. For example, we support reforms that: decrease the influence of money in politics empower ordinary people in workplaces and the economy restructure gender and cultural relationships to be more equitable. We are activists committed to democracy as not simply one of our political values but our means of restructuring society. Our vision is of a society in which people have a real voice in the choices and relationships that affect the entirety of our lives. We call this vision democratic socialism — a vision of a more free, democratic and humane society. In this web site you can find out about DSA, its politics, structure and program. DSA's political perspective is called Where We Stand. It says, in part, We are socialists because we reject an international economic order sustained by private profit, alienated labor, race and gender discrimination, environmental destruction, and brutality and violence in defense of the status quo. We are socialists because we share a vision of a humane international social order based both on democratic planning and market mechanisms to achieve equitable distribution of resources, meaningful work, a healthy environment, sustainable growth, gender and racial equality, and non-oppressive relationships. DSA has a youth section, Young Democratic Socialists (YDS). Made up of students from colleges and high schools, the Youth Section works on economic justice and democracy and prison justice projects. It is a member of the International Union of Socialist Youth, an affiliate of the Socialist International. The Youth Section meets several times during the year. The DSA has chapters all over the country, chances are there's one in your state, if there isn't one near you though, starting your own chapter isn't very hard. To find a chapter: http://www.dsausa.org/chapters To start a chapter: http://www.dsausa.org/start_a_chapter Also if you're going to start a chapter download and read this; http://www.dsausa.org/organizing_for_justice Also read that anyway because it's a great guide for organizing in general. The DSA has yearly dues, which can be seen here: As you can see, it's pretty affordable for once a year, the dues are necessary because the DSA is completely funded by membership/dues, people who can't afford the dues are still welcome to attend meetings and volunteer with the cause, they're just not dues paying members of the DSA, although from what I've personally heard usually chapter heads will work with people who can't afford the $27 low income due. To become a member of the DSA go here; https://dsausa.nationbuilder.com/join So what does the DSA actually do? DSA chapters do a lot of local stuff, like a DSA chapter in my state is working on improving the treatment of the homeless in the major city, and stopping/reversing the illegality of being homeless. The national DSA also does campaigns, for example they supported Bernie Sanders during the democratic primary, and they also have a current campaign, from their website; DSA and YDS chapters organize around a variety of issues based on local priorities, especially labor solidarity and anti-austerity work. However, the national office provides resources and support for the main activist priorities of the organization: Standing Up to Hate Emergency Response In response to the anti-Mexican, anti-black, anti-Muslim, anti-refugee anti-woman and general hate-mongering coming from Donald Trump and the way he is creating space for racist extremists to mobilize, DSA local chapters are reaching out to immigrant rights organizations, mosques and others who may be targets for violence. We are mobilizing to spread the message that hate only creates more hate, and we will continue to resist him and what he represents. Longer term, DSA chapters will work to build a multi-racial democratic socialist movement that is forthrightly anti-racist and includes white poor and working class and rural folks. Feel free to use this thread to ask questions about the DSA, talk about the DSA, post sick DSA memes, discuss organizing efforts/progress etc. Please do not use this thread to hate on the DSA, or be a big baby with a poopy diaper. dsa is extremely good and if you post in cspam but dont join your local chapter and get active in your community then you will be purged when the revolution comes. pm me or ask in this thread if you are in tx and need help finding connections or want to know who to get in touch with. im an organizer out of houston and will help with that. people are organizing all over the country and there are massive demonstrations happening all over the place. get involved there is actual productive work to be done right now. it's fun to lay a sick burn in cspam but it's much more fun to agitate in irl i promise. even a goon like you can go outside and change the world.

Just popping in to say that I'm with DSA in NYC and if you have any questions about ~city life~ feel free to ask. Now, to get down to brass tacks...I think it's clear we need gang tags for DSA on these here forums. I'm thinking something tasteful, like "Raine's Rosebuds" with a little wiggling gif of Brad Pitt in Aldo Raine regalia on one side of the text and then a little wiggling rose on the other side of the text. To that end, I propose that we establish a gang tag working group to explore the idea of forming an organizing committee to determine if this is something can should be brought to a vote within the general membership.

Apparently she came out to a fundraiser once around Christmas, but I've never seen her at any events or meetings in BK, so I dunno how accurate that. But yeah, gotcha, I listen to CTH, but haven't made the jump to CT.

DSA is a welcoming organization that is glad to let even filthy dnc collaborator liberals attend their meetings with the hope that they see the light of socialism and dedicate themselves fully to destroying capitalism. don't be afraid to attend one, it really is a big tent.
