Marge, I'd like to be alone with the sandwich for a moment.

Are you going to eat it?

...yes...
I feel like Dune is one of those projects where I'll believe it when it's finished and out. They'll probably churn through 5 directors before it actually shoots.

Villeneuve have been talking about doing this for a while. I think it's only being greenlit because of him.

I love this choice because it's a fantastic selection but would also find it amusing if between it and Blade Runner: 2049 he gets typecast as "guy who directs sci-fi movies with a big face in the sand."

They've no doubt gone through several page-one script rewrites over several years (if not decades) and possibly enlisted and then lost several directors before they even got to the point where they felt confident enough to publicly announce the project.

This has created a very real explosion in my brain. Villeneuve tends to cast a friend of mine in his movies and the idea that he might be in a Dune movie after how much we geeked out about Dune as kids...gently caress man. Mind blown.

Mel Gibson and Vince Vaughn are going to make Heroic Police Brutality: The Movie

quote:

The script centers on two policemen, one an old-timer (Gibson), the other his volatile younger partner (Vaughn), who find themselves suspended when a video of their strong-arm tactics become the media's cause du jour. Low on cash and with no other options, these two embittered soldiers descend into the criminal underworld to gain their just due, but instead find far more than they wanted awaiting them in the shadows.

To be fair you could say the same thing about the actual hypothetical Jodorowsky Dune movie if it were actually made. Super crazy and extravagant conceptual work almost never survives unscathed once it's gone through the realities of production.

Sounds like it wants to be Bad Lieutenant 2 without fully committing to the idea that no, these cops are actually bad and not "just doing bad for the greater good."

Jodorowsky made insane elaborate stuff like the Holy Mountain and El Topo on small budgets. Imagine what he could've done with a big budget sci-fi film.

You wouldn't have wanted Orson Welles to play the Baron???

As an aside, you should really check out Jodorowsky and Moebius's "The Incal". Supposedly it uses a lot of concepts and ideas from Jodorowsky's Dune fever dream.

Did you see Flash Gordon? Quite a few of the costumes that where originally designed/made for Jodorowsky's Dune movie actually appear throughout it and Ming's palace being completely golden is from it also.

From the documentary it seemed a lot of the money would have went to crap and paying for Orson Welles' chef.

I love El Topo, but the fact is that some directors NEED the restraints to make real art. Having unlimited resources isn't always good.

Further down the Twitter feed he explains that he mentions the Dune "series" not because it's a series of movies, but because they might use any of the 19 books in the series for the script. "They might pick one of mine!" Okay Brian.
