Guy Mann posted:I don't like them because they're really boring. One marginally interesting setting quirk (desert world, hologram boat) and a crazy fight scene or two isn't enough to make up for the other 90 minutes of tepid jump scares and shallow excuses for Milla to make terrble quips and get naked. I'm pretty syre Jovovich insists on a nudity clause in all her contracts.

Exactly. I'm sure there are some mouthbreathers that have an issue with the movie having a female protagonist, but to try to tar every person critical of the films as disliking them from a place of misogyny is, well, as stupid as those movies are. The movies are stupid and boring, with little to no redeeming value. "People who don't like them are just a bunch of sexists." gently caress off, you absolute penis.

That John Wick poster could have used shadows on either side to draw the eye in, or bad guy bodies littering the floor around the title.

The CrucTfiction. Christ, couldn't they have stylized the X as a titled cross instead? Resident Evil 5 goes comic book style: I like this one:

I always figured it was similar to the "with" or "and" credits. Can't remember the last time I noticed a boxed name in the credit scroll though.

How are Chinese people not sick of Journey to the West by this point? It's like every year there's a new one. This one appears to be a sequel to the one Stephen Chow directed (that's just my guess based on him being listed as a writer on this one), which wasn't bad. The story is getting old though.

Come on China, do something original! How about a Wong Fei-hung film? Detective No. 27 posted:I think that sometimes, but I'm certain there are Chinese people thinking the same about us and Batman movies. Didn't Batman movies do well there? I'm certain they will think it about Star Wars now that a new one IS coming out here every year, and those don't seem to do as well there.

This is still great. Even as a parody it's amazing how a painted/illustrated poster can make a film look so much better.

This movie was kind of stupid, but I really enjoyed it at the time that it came out. At the very least, Jet Li and Jackie were fun together.

The only thing I remember from this movie is the scene where Jet Li pees on Jackie Chan, it's pretty great.

Yep Li and Chan were great together. But they had to go put an annoying loving kid in it. Did they seriously not think Li and Chan were not bigger enough names to sell a bloody martial arts movie even if it didn't have at least one white lead? I will never understand why such a stupid decision was made.

I wouldn't call it fun, though. I personally thought it was a bit of a slog, overall. Maybe that's what they were going for. The main actress is very good in the movie, though.

I like Forbidden Kingdom because it's the result of someone making a Vision board with a 104 degree fever. It's loving bonkers and the white kid is a good enough actor to pull off the crappy role.

dr_rat posted:Yep Li and Chan were great together. But they had to go put an annoying loving kid in it. If I had to take a stab, it's less that Li and Chan weren't big enough names (they're basically the biggest names in the genre, and especially were at that time), and more that the producers figured non-Chinese audiences would largely be unfamiliar with wuxia tropes and needed an audience surrogate character.

To clarify: The use of VV instead of W was common during the 17th century. Which is when the film is set. Also it's one of the best films of last year. I loved it but also know that a lot of the things I really dug are things a lot of other people dislike. Furthermore: Hail Satan.
