I was in the Peace Corps with a Chinarphile guy. He lived there for like 4 months and one of the first things he said to me was "I'm only attracted to Asians". He got engaged to a Mongol girl and they're married now. Before we finished our service he told me "My kid is going to be tri-lingual, he/she is going to speak English, Chinese, and Mongolian". Neither he nor his wife speak any Chinese, so I'm not sure how he thinks that's going to happen.

Chaoshan Pengyou is talking again about how lousy her culture is. I was walking and said I need new shoes and she brought this up suddenly. "Go outside" means traveling domestically or abroad, and also simply going for a long walk away from everyone. She's actually envious that I can just go for a loving walk all day alone. Adding it together - A Chaoshan woman: Has no freedom to go where she wants, can't have hobbies outside the house, must give most of her money to her parents (she should be living with them before marriage, only black sheep will work outside), she can't or shouldn't get higher education, she must be married by or before age 23, and she should expect to be a stay-at-home housewife and mom for the rest of her life once she has children since working outside the home or community is deeply frowned on. How much of a bitch-made dude do you have to be to be so terrified your women are going to run away that you have to enforce a society where they can't even leave the house? LOL EDIT: I wonder if they allow women to drive. They seem to have a lot in common with Saudi Arabia. Haier fucked around with this message at 06:44 on Feb 6, 2017 |

When I was there the only one I think I tried was TAIWAN BEER which wasn't offensively bad, I guess? Taiwan Beer is just their totally serviceable macrobrew, it's fine and not bad. There are Taiwanese craft breweries that do pretty good beers, some kinda experimental (hit and miss) and some more straightforwardly good. A couple friends went out to the Jim & Dad's brewery/tasting house in Yilan and said it was a great trip (Yilan is really pretty, too), so if you have a day to spare for that it could be a good tip. Taiwan Head Brewers is the other one I see often (there are a couple of craft beer stores either near my apt or on my way home from work) and their stuff is pretty good.

I went to Chaoshan (Shanwei I think) for the wedding of a friend of mine's "brother." I drank a whole bottle of cognac doing ganbeis with like a million random chinese people at the wedding and dropped my new cell phone into a squat toilet at some super seedy night club afterward. My buddy's dad made his own hooch in some jar in their kitchen and they gave me a whole tumbler full of it. It was harsh but I did America proud. Chaoshan food is loving good though. I also had a six hour bus ride back the next day which was awful. I read Norman Mailer's The Quick and the Dead during the bus ride back and I felt very acutely the suffering of the characters in the book.

You would think that billionaires are usually above the law, but not in CCP China. You would also think that a billionaire who knows he might be abducted would hire some loving personal security or wear an ankle monitor or something. He might also not even go back to China or Hong Kong, but LOL, nope.
