Shut the gently caress up about help desks. Mirthless do you ever wonder why you consistently end up at the center of every boring, interminable derail? It's probably just coincidence.

Most companies don't hire help desk people to teach the accountants who put excel on their resume how to do excel, they just fire those people for not knowing how to do what they were hired for. Hahahahaha! I work for the state in a fairly high level IT support role. Your world would be shattered if you saw the people who I deal with on a daily basis who are so-called senior "infrastructure specialists" making six figures who don't know how to perform basic troubleshooting before sending my team their tickets. They have no clue how Outlook shared mailboxes or room resources work and panic when the most basic issues arise. People like this are virtually immune to termination and have obscene job security. Oh man. You have no idea. I know application support guys who are paid $80k and sit on their phones all day playing mobile games who have no clue what their software does. The rabbit hole goes so deep.

The last stuff to be automated is going to be the stuff that requires good communication skills, like sales and IT troubleshooting and whatnot. That's one of the reason that tech skills are far less important to job security than exceptional people skills. Thankfully I've got both because I love computers and people!

By the way, the reason those jobs won't be automated is the same logic for which guys get laid. You can have a mansion but if you call out, "Sex-hole! Sex-hole! What's-your-face, where are you?? SEXXXX-HOOOLLLEEEE?" your marriage might not last as long as with the fella who respects his SO and tells her she has pretty eyes.

That's a, uh, really weird way of reading intentions behind something that was clearly set up and advertised as a magazine assignment and makes me think you might be projecting onto him just a wee bit. Like it's extremely unsurprising he wouldn't get any takers, and consequently it's kind of a weird inclusion in an article about the difficulties of regular single men, but I'm pretty sure there was no judgement of appearance or prospects implied, and the offer to use a pseudonym was for the article he planned to write about the weird freaky sexercise routine. While OP is definitely socially awkward and dorky as hell, his best friend is a moron and he should never listen to him in any serious capacity again.
