I dont know why but the Liberty is a very odd about driving fro point A to point B. It's like... welp I'm here, where did the drive go? The Commodore was a big cruisy car but it was never ..... forgettable to drive? I guess is the phrase I'm looking for. Everything is quiet, vibration free and just passes under the radar. Kinda the perfect spy car - it's there and then you forget it ever was there. Dunno, I guess I expect a 10 year old car to have SOME sort of squeak or rattle somewhere. Also the H6 really is ice smooth. It IS a great car to drive, there's plenty of feedback etc but it's still just seems to be able to get where you want with the absolute minimum of fuss and bother. Upside - the visibility looking out is fantastic. Sane A pillars are awesome

Yeah I am shitscared of what February will hold for Perth. We were saved by a cyclone so far (it rained all week til today) but given 44 is pretty average weather for this time of year and has been for as long as I've been here, it's going to get hosed up when we have a heat wave. ANYWAY BACK TO FETISHISING HYDROCARBON PRODUCING MOTORVEHICLES. That gen Liberty was really high on my list when I was car shopping this time around, and if it wasn't for the fact that the Spec B was just a little bit more than I wanted to spend, I'd definitely have gone that way. And with my Mrs hounding me for a second I just might. I got the IS300 for a steal though, and even though it's lacking power vs the H6 Liberty, it's a really smooth and quiet ride. I had a little BA Astina before that, and you almost feel like a passenger driving the Lexus in comparison. You can have quiet, smooth cars while still having good handling and steering feel, and I think that's what's so great about those Liberties. Commodores are all the wrong kinds of driver detachment, though - although I'm not going to lie, I really like the look of the last gen SV6s I keep seeing everywhere. It's a shame they finally got something right, and now they're done.

Yeah, the Commodore is a legit great car now and it's about to go. gently caress the Govt for withdrawing support. Stripped the harness completely from the 06 WRX, got a parts list of what I want. 96 WRX update..... found a 99 complete body loom. I know what I am doing this weekend.

Fuuuuck me, takign apart cars in 44C heat is stupid hard to do Yeeesh Anyone want a B4 harness? Just two of the parts stockpiles. The fix for the shithouse wiring is coming...... time to strip the shitfight out of the GF8 And yes more spares. One side for random engine bits, the other for electrical wiring and air / oil lines. Not seen is the gearbox in the back seat. Have a guess what the wiring fix is?

There's nothing that special about how Mazda built them as opposed to the normal GSLs.

Well, unless I start running them in the US's rather modified circuit class (E Production) it's not like I'm depleting my supply of shells, and I have to get my racing strut development project online before that since there's no reasonable options that are credible - I mean I bet MCA over there would do a setup, but that's a bit of a pain to have rebuilt (shipping it there and back I mean) But then again EProd is one of the most competitive classes over here and 1st gen RX-7s are surprisingly relevant. Part of me does imagine building up a cache of identically prepped, stripped, seam welded and caged shells, and design everything too expensive to have spares of to swap between them. Goddamn, I just realized how that sounded.

Kaptainballistik posted:Gooood GOOOD American circuit classes end up with weird rules quirks - EProd allows widebodies, moved suspension (as long as you don't cut the unibody) and extend port 12As or 13Bs with your choice of stock, alternate synchro or dogbox all with a variety of weight breaks (there's a total of 6 possible weights to run a 1st gen at) but restricts you to 13x7 or 15x7 wheels. Of course, the rules have been stable on the wheel width for decades, so Hoosier has a tire intended for the class, which puts a 9.5" wide slick comfortably on a 7" wheel. Oh yeah, and stock calipers and rotor sizes are required for some reason - at least now, after a few people had their wheels part company with the car, they allow RX-7s to run an aftermarket hub where the bearing carrier's not part of the same casting as the rotor. (sorry, ranty mood)

Is this where I mention I've found a 22b at a UK breakers that's had the front corner ripped off? Unfortunately the Coupe was not brought to Australia except as a STi and in small numbers. Hence even grabbing a shoddy example to give the 2.2 treatment is an expensive concept. However... The coupe actually shares the same roof and boot profile as the sedan, and to convert the 4 door to a 2 door involves a b pillar and 1/4 panel swap. The locators for the bodywork are even on the 4 door chassis. I'm currently waiting for a 2 door race only shell to appear for the parts..... Getting it re-regoed as the Coupe is certainly doable.

Always amuses me that we all think Escorts are great little cars when watching rally videos.... but the sad truth is they are all (unless they are homologation cars or have the words "Lotus" or "Cosworth" in the name) totally wretched pieces of poo poo in anything close to stock form. Hell, they were hopelessly outdated when they were new, rust was a pre installed option, they had Lucas electricals, the body flexed so badly that the door gaps changed depending on angle of steering and the brakes were a suggestion to slow down only. Just compare a stock Escort Mk II to the Lancia Beta sedan - the Lancia had what was then completely modern IRS suspension, powerful 4 wheel discs, standard twin cam motors and 5 speed also standard..... the Lancia was quite clearly the precursor to a good modern car, the Escort was a frightening dead end. But a modified Escort screaming it's nuts off on a rally stage? Sign me the gently caress up. I dont want to pay for it tho... there is some truly ridiuclous cash being spent on stupid fast Escorts and some truly insane mods as well. 6 speed gearboxes with sequential / paddle shift? Sure, no problem! Here's the kit from Demon Tweaks.
