I can't speak for Lego Batman but The Lego Movie is a great family film, as in entertaining for any family member. Huge difference and way more challenging to do than something directed squarely at small kids. It's pretty amusing for most of its running time and looks great, they fully 100% commit to it.

I do think it's funny to ask why adults watch Lego movies in a thread predominantly concerned with superhero movies.

The movie is about rejecting mindless acceptance or rejection of ideals and the creation of artificial walls to prevent yourself from being exposed to those viewpoints. So, you might need to see it if you rejected it based on Everything is Awesome.

In the movie, the main character rejects expanding his horizon based his assumptions and some artificial input from the bad guy (including everything is awesome). So, it's funny that you avoided seeing the movie based on Everything Is Awesome, because you have followed the same plot beat as the main character in the first act.

Little did I know that I was dissing a subversive masterpiece, the Lego Movie. What a world!

How the gently caress would anyone listen to Everything is Awesome and not realise its a parody? It's like watching Johnny English and wondering why Rowan Atkinson is the new Bond. Jesus.

Don't think MJ ever listened to it beyond the initial "Everything is awesommeeeeeeee, everything is cool when you're part of a teammmmmm!!!!" I didn't know it was Tegan and Sara feat Lonely Island though. The initial trailer with the song in it turned me off to watching the movie for awhile. Like here's my mea culpa: I knew nothing about it, and I shouldn't have called anyone a dumbass. I sincerely apologize to Leon Trotsky 2012. But I will say that kids in my life were constantly saying "Everything is awesome!" to each other in all seriousness. I didn't detect a trace of parody from the 8-year-old-set.

Everyone's leaving out the part where "Everything Is Awesome" is still 'co-opted' by the protagonists as their anthem, even as its explicitly presented as propaganda. The movie is, effectively, a remake of Metropolis.

The Batman that appears in The Lego movie is a more interesting and subversive character than the one in BvS. Both films are for children and also corporate products. Only one is good.
