I can understand if there were a suitable replacement for battlesphere but prism is very fiddly and tedious to use properly, makes a ton of noise and force lance just doesn't work well as a replacement. It definitely stings to not have a MP efficient way of dishing out guaranteed hits and they should fill that void better somehow (maybe by just bringing back battlesphere).

e: Also force lance + prism as synergy is kinda suspect IMO, if your combo relies on force lance knocking something into a prism you're wasting 8 MP if you miss with force lance...

Or if it just doesn't knock them back.

And you can only cast a few force lances.

Conjurer badly needed the MP efficiency Battlesphere provided.

I love Battlesphere like the next guy, but let me just mention that Conjurers went to town without that spell for years.

Goffer posted:

So I didn't realise it because the wiki hadn't been updated, but weapon weightings are gone (since .18), and dex and str are now the sole stat deciders of accuracy and damage? Just checked the learndb and:

Damage =
Approximately: 1d(base*strength_bonus)*skill_bonus + random2(to_dam + slaying + 1) + various bonuses. Weapon {brand} is applied after monster AC reduction.
Strength bonus is usually < 1.5 (see str), skill bonus (both from weapon and Fighting skills) is randomized, averaging about 2.0 at max skill
Damage bonuses include +1d10 for might and -1d5 when Starving.

To Hit =
mhit is random2(15+dex/2 + random2(fighting+1) + random2(weapon skill +1) + weapon enchantment + weapon base accuracy + slaying - 3 if starving - 1d(aevp) – 1d(asp) -5 if vertigo + 2*(eyes mut + 0.5) -6 vs invisible targets )

So for anyone going a heavy slow weapon with low accuracy it's much better to get dex, and if you're using light weapons strength will help more? And all my battle axe wielding strength characters were gimping themselves? It would be nice if this were explained more in the game somewhere.

What would really be nice is if accuracy were meaningful past the early game, EV were a little more comparable to AC as a line of defense, and the game were more upfront about accuracy in general.

As it is, as a general rule, if you want to use heavier armor you boost strength, if you're fine with armor for your current strength you boost dex and if you want to cast you boost int. Since str also boosts damage, and by considerably more than it used to (not only is str/dex weight gone, the effects of strength were double at some point several versions ago), I think str is typically a better choice than dex, unless you already have high str and low dex, like on an ogre or a hill orc fighter.

I find it funny that the blade entry vaults have unbranded daggers & falchions because at the time regular dancing weapons were considered to be too much of a threat to spawn outside of their locked rune door vault. Now you can find branded glaives just flying around elf 1.

They were a serious threat too, being fast omniresistant enemies. Now I just don't ever do elf that early.

I mean you're also more likely to run into high level elves on Elf:1 now too so its really not a great idea to explore it unless you need shops and burn a mapping scroll to find them.

VVV I more afraid of demonologists than an anything cause even if they are fragile a low level character probably won't have enough MR to resist banishment.

Yeah but the warrior elves don't seem to spawn normally (I don't think I've ever seen a master archer outside the end vault or blademaster outside the end vault and hall of blades) and the high level dangerous caster elves are glass cannons, so if you had a decent character you could take them down before they pulled anything. Knights were usually the most dangerous enemy.

Now with more elves having summons and elementals and dancing weapons everywhere Elf is way more dangerous and I won't try to touch it before doing lair branches.

I did something similar with rF++ and only steam dragon scales. The next turn I had a third less of my health, around 50 damage. The turns after that my health continued to drop rapidly from the flames but most importantly a stone giant. Those clouds do take AC into account IIRC, which is why the outcome is less traumatic in GDS.

Well the variety is in how you deal with encounters between the 'o' spam. Of course if you just pick MiBe or some other melee power combo, you're going to find that you deal with these encounters by smashing on the tab key. Still, you have to know how to pick your fights and how to position yourself and that can be pretty interesting too. Once you start finding different dungeon branches you have to decide what you can/can't take on and choose wisely so you can get strong enough to gather 3 runes without dying. There's plenty going on!

No, prior to 0.12 conjurers had a fire/air starting book and an icy starting book, since the pink pure-conj spells didn't really exist outside of magic dart and IMB. There was a major reform that gave them their new book.
