Yeah there's no story or anything really (outside of the Untold remakes) and it's probably the most user friendly.
The only real reason not to is if you're planning on playing the earlier games at some point you should do that first since they'll be hard to go back to after 4.

Well there's no reason to go back to 1 and 2 since they were remade, and if you end up loving the series 3 isn't hard to go back to at all. But yes 4 is a great place to start.

there's 3 levels of face tech: Naughty Dog, Uncanny Valley, and Sega Dreamcast. Most games like Yakuza, Bloodborne, and Street Fighter fall into the "sega dreamcast" territory but then BioWare and NRS usually fall into "uncanny valley" where some faces look great and others not so much.

also 4th category is "mannequin central" which Todd Howard has innovated

Yakuza's faces are like the CG version of those mangas where every male character looks the same except for facial scars and haircuts.

I still think dolphin-emulated Wind Waker looks better than the HD re-release. The game didn't really need all that fancy lighting tech...

Same with my girlfriend. She really likes to watch me play certain games, but tunes out for others. She loved Uncharted 4 and has offered to buy me the HD collection of Uncharted 1-3 so she can watch those. She also loves watching Zelda games. I think she wants to play Zelda herself but she doesn't enjoy video game combat, so a good part of the game just isn't any fun for her, so instead she helps me solve puzzles. Plus she has a tough time working with player-controlled cameras, so she might try Link Between Worlds, since I think 2D would at least cut that part out.

The last game she actually played was The Witness, which I bought for her soon after it came out and she loved it and 100% completed it. I was happy to watch her do that one because I get easily frustrated by puzzle games and really don't want to play them myself. I'm planning on buying her Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker soon because a) it's adorable and b) puzzles with very light action seems like a good fit.

For those who may not've heard, Idle Thumbs, one of the longest-running game podcasts and one of my favorites is switching to Patreon to support the multiple podcasts they produce and host.

Idle Thumbs is hosted by Chris Remo, Nick Breckon, and Jake Rodkin(as well as some other former hosts like Sean Vanaman), who is responsible for the first season of Telltale's The Walking Dead, before splitting off and forming Campo Santo Games and making Firewatch. It's a genuinely great podcast most of the time(the worst parts were during the days they were in full Firewatch production mode and so were tired + couldn't do much else during the week and the discussions were poor) and also has a fair bit of insight into the development of games or the minds of creators as well. Plenty of Robot News, too.

They also, over the course of a few years, read a bunch of emails I sent in about the Steam Hat Economy which I will take every opportunity to link whenever possible because the stories are downright nuts

I only play Resident Evil 7 with my gf watching because it has become akin to a TV series for her: watching what comes next and also watching how loving shook I get peeking around corners and running from demented rednecks.

She also loves Yakuza 0 but only the wacky sidequests, mostly the Majima ones.

Wait, you are in the UK too? :hfive: explains why you are posting similar times to me.

Zelda is going to be a game she actually wants to play and won't want me to play as it will spoil it so I'll have to wait for a change. She insisted I played RE7 and Alien Isolation as she loves horror but can't play it. She really enjoys souls and souls like games so at the moment when I come in from work if I was to say 'oh I'm going to play Nioh' I'd get a 'oh cool' response but if it was Yakuza she would start to fidget and possibly ask if I should be doing something more productive at times.

EDIT: I've not really listened to Idle Thumbs for a while, used to really enjoy it every week but started to find some it grating. Stopped a bit before Danielle came in? Think I didn't enjoy guest eps. Has Sean quit now then? I always enjoy Nick being Nick so glad he came back.

Felt they dropped the ball with Firewatch a bit though as it was good but not as great as I felt it should be with all their talk about games etc.

Be advised that Origin Access (that subscription thing that lets you play some EA games for free, and includes special demos and discounts) is running a free, 7 day trial. It'll ask you to "pay" on registration but it won't actually charge you until those seven days are up. So in other words, subscribe, immediately cancel, and enjoy temporary access to some of the bigger games of yesteryear.

:same: I never quite took a shine to Sean. He hasn't been on the podcast for a while now. Nick has been playing some Dark Souls on their twitch channel. Watching him constantly eat his own words was funny.

They're slowing down on Idle Thumbs and starting up a generally themed podcast they call Important if True, which probably won't be video game focused at all since that'll be the only thing really separating it from the original podcast.
From what little I understand, it'll probably be more news/pop culture focused?
