Once More Unto the Breach: Another great episode. Even though you can see the ending coming it's just played so well. Watching Martok's transformation toward Kor from hate to pity to honor was handled really well. Them toasting Kor on the bridge was just a great scene. Yes it's Klingon poo poo and it's the same poo poo every time but the tone was perfect. Also the special effects have evolved a bit by this point in the show. I don't think I've ever seen a fast moving warbird like the strafing scenes in DS9 up to this point.

If STD was painfully aware of itself and its destiny to fail that would be pretty new and exiting.

I suspect there will be an episode where they find a backwards race that wants to kill one of the main cast but they can't interfere because of the prime directive. In the B plot someone will learn not to judge others based on preconceptions.

That is a good point. This will be our first taste of Trek morality but squeezed through the new culture of partisan exaggerated offense taking. I away the first episode of star trek to deal with the scourge of cultural appropriation onboard a starship. "You dare replicate a plomeek soup? Oh what? My people are just a cuisine to you? You can just traipse across the entire menu without caring whose reclimated poo poo-atoms formed the building blocks of that meal?" "You're cutting me open with a bat'leth? I can't believe you'd be this insensitive when you know Klingon culture is one of my triggers"

I think if trek is ever going to be relevant again it needs to adapt and change. This whole idea of what "is trek" and "isn't trek" isn't a healthy fixation. Tons of people hated DS9 because "It wasn't trek!!". THey could admit it was good, well written but "it's not trek!!!". There's this idea that any show with trek in its name needs to just be some re-hashing of the formula of the classic series or TNG. It needs to follow all of genes stupid and drug-addled rules. They have to be exploring, they have to have morality plays and lessons, they have to do this and that or it's "not trek". A good star trek could be anything set in the trek universe. A political drama set mostly on earth, a breaking bad style descent into crime and madness where some human doctor on a non-federation world there to help ends up getting involved with local factions and ends up going down a road to hell paved with good intentions. Have an spoopy x-filesy show about federation or multinational agents sent to investigate some of the worst horrors encountered while also dealing with politics and conspiracies and drama and trust between the agents. Have a gritty war series set during the romulan war. Just make it good. I don't care what it is, I don't care if it's a federation starship exploring or not, just make it good and interesting. If a good writer and team can pitch something new and cool to do with the franchise, go for it.

Is there an episode of TNG where Data meets a lady robot and builds a penis for himself, or was that a fever dream of mine? I also remember there was an episode where some human had the hots for him, so maybe that was the episode where he made his own robot johnson...

There is a TNG ep where a crew member wants Data to be her boyfriend so they go on a few dates and he installs a few new dating/human relationship subroutines including petty arguments and it's loving hilarious, watch it right now (s4 e25)

Dr Soong's attempt at biological realism have appeared to have given it a mind of its own.
