Actually, that lady (who has that face the whole way it seems) is pretty sympathetic and I agree with her. It shouldn't be about shame, it should be about getting people where they have the best quality of life, and want that for themselves, and know how to do it. It's a society-wide issue that involves a lot of nuance. I would say that for the most part that the video is on the wrong question though, which is not "is fat healthy?" but to what extent individuals have an obligation to be healthy. I think they're right, it's different in Australia where there's a public health service, versus other nations where the social safety nets are laxer.

Right, that's why that's a dumb question to be asking. The real question is, at what point is a person's being fat someone else's business, including the govt (and the same arguments go for smoking, drinking, or anything else).

It very frequently is the government's business, and it's absolutely the business of hospitals and EMT workers who risk permanent and debilitating injuries lifting persons of size into beds and gurneys, and who are an increasingly taking up room and suffering from completely preventable disorders.

if it were preventable they would prevent it. They are loving miserable every day, and don't kill themselves because it'd just be too much effort, it's a constant battle between self loathing, and the denigration of your peers. You're trapped in a prison of your own flesh, and you can't escape. When you ask for help people look at you and laugh, either saying you're just too lazy, you don't want it, or you don't deserve to be healthy. The only way you can beat back those feelings is with more food, or weed, or drugs, and you make the situation worse, in a self perpetuating loop that ends in an early miserable death.

I didn't say it wasn't the government's business, it certainly is to some extent, but determining to what extent is the same as for smokers and etc. There's a rational dimension to the dislike and an irrational one.

And don't sign your posts.

That's part of it, and also she really plays up all the lovely things that have happened to her in her life and uses that as part of the marketing of herself. And as I said, uses that to deflect criticism and have a ready made group of people made up of women who desperately want to feel good about themselves in any way (which is not a bad thing in of its self) that will attack anyone who dares say anything bad about Tess.

Someone who was thinner would not have that ready made bludgeon to deflect criticism. And we see this a lot, people who use their disabilities to excuse their lovely behavior. I'm autistic, don't blame me for my 1tb of child porn!

Or they could try actually analysing how much of their behaviour is laziness and take the initiative to fix it and feel better. Fat people are remarkably good at hiding their own sloth and gluttony, especially from themselves. Source: I am a fat bastard due to my own behaviours and genetics, and would memory hole my worrying caloric consumption as soon as considering it had a chance of changing my behaviour.

They are no more helpless than they choose to be and they should be encouraged if they try to change, but I have no sympathy for people who declare themselves healthy anymore. I am unhealthy. That's why I'm doing cardio every day and weights three times a week.

Besides laziness, what is stopping them from eating 2000 calories and walking for a few minutes a couple times a day? Walking 1 or 2 miles total a day and eating a normal amount of food would have most giant fat people seeing and feeling results within a couple months.

She's had a lovely life and I support her idea that people should be happy with themselves regardless of common beauty standards, but that doesn't make her not a lousy person, regardless of her beanbag body. The fact that people excuse her behavior based on the fact that she's a Fatty Freedom Fighter IS galling; so it would be if someone got away with the same behavior because they're lithe and beautiful.

Basically, just don't be a horrible person? Or confine the horrible things you say to the AUG thread...

Instead go to a psychiatrist so that you aren't the kind of person who eats a can of whipped cream. There's a reason you're doing that, and you should get mental help.

People respond to depression differently.

Treating weight as moral problem is like treating poverty like a moral problem, with the same flavors of concern trolling to boot.

Thinner people will just deflect criticism as the product of jealousy. A size 2 model with Tess Holidays personality faults wouldn't even be a blip on the AUG threads radar, even if they were just as ugly on the inside. Conventionally attractive people get a pass for lovely behavior all the drat time.
