Floodkiller posted:The criticism is based on the fact that, despite this information, the player has no in-game accessible knowledge of when these breakpoints will occur, nor how much the aptitude will be affected, until it happens. I'm wondering if this is a valid complaint that a player (casual or inexperienced with the species) could be caught off guard about, or if this can be comparable to species mutations/draconian colors (where the XL can be known by looking up out of game resources, but isn't referenced at all within the game itself). If the former, I need to figure out a way to communicate this information to the player in a way that does not break immersion/flat out throw the numbers in their face and expect them to understand it. I'm pretty sure in the race select screen the short description for draconians explicitly says 'they gain a colour when they reach xl7' However I also don't think it's a big deal to not immediately know the break points for apt drops, just that they happen. It's not like you lose any XP when it happens and demonspawn also doesn't spell out the mechanics of their body/scales/2x unique muts/endcap mutation structure.

Heh, I read an un-ID scroll of immolation and then stabbed one of Pikel's slaves, which caused a hilarious chain reaction. I'm sure this character is doomed to some dumb fate but eat least that was neat.

IronicDongz posted:you're thinking of controlled blink, dispersal, and disjunction. I was really just making a singularity joke. The thing is though, in every game in which I've been able to cast these, I also haven't actually needed them. I picked up controlled blink in my last win and never used it once, and it's the best of those three spells.

Fr: Someone (maybe me at some stage if I figure out all the git protocols) needs to update the summon canine familiar spell in some of the following ways: 1. Make the summon a permanent summon / a stair follower 2. Let it earn experience by killing 3. Make its experience persistent through death/resummoning 4. Cause pain to the player (1dmaxHP/2 of the summon?) each time it dies, so players look after it. 5. Maybe make it appear at the edge of the players vision so it's not useful as a hasty battle summon It just seems like it's lacking something in its current form. Something to differentiate it from being just another ignored low level summon, it might make the dungeon trip less lonely and gives you something to invest in early/mid game.

I think there's some untapped potential with summon spells, but they have to be temporary, in my opinion.

FR: summon canine familiar temporarily summons another player currently playing a Cyno into your game and you co-op for as long as the spell lasts. In offline mode you have to hotseat with a dog.

I want to see some Final Fantasy style summon spells where you summon a thing, after a turn or two it does some huge dramatic attack, then vanishes. Also killing via summon should afford full XP.

dpeg posted:This is not spell stuff. Permanent summons are problematic even on gods. What makes a permanent summon problematic? Coding wise or balance/power wise? Beregoth worshippers get plenty (speaking of which, there should be Orc Houndmasters who get pet doggies). As it's defined as a familiar summon, and it's capped at 1 at a time, it feels likes at least the duration should be a lot longer. 4. could be a drain, or other negative status (*sad) to mark the passing of a permanent summon.

Can Of Worms posted:Canine Familiar is already unique, it's the only summon in the starter book that can see invisible. It also scales very well with power. Wolves and wargs do serious damage, and because they're so fast, you can just walk away from enemies while the summon nips them to pieces.

code:
Man, vampire has been the hardest for me to win with, though in retrospect going for maximizing pain brand damage made things harder than they needed to be because I sunk way too much experience into necromancy. On the other hand Kiku + high spellpower dispel undead made Crypt+Tomb almost trivial and that gave me considerable XP and loot. I ended up using statue form + death channel for most of Zot, but I had enough in earth + conjurations that I could quaff brilliance and iron shot could actually kill orbs of fire. Orb run with batform was surprisingly powerful, it's a lot less scary to be a bat when you're level 27 and have high HP

Out of curiosity, does cleave on axes still work with whirlwind, or should I look at long blades if I want to be a whirlytaur for the riposting?

If it worked with whirlwind it would be bonkers because whirlwind itself hits multiple enemies and each enemy you hit would proc a cleave. Unless I'm mistaken, though, lunge works with cleave, and you can whirlwind and lunge at the same time, meaning you can whirl a target and hit them in the same turn with a powered up cleave. I think axes and long blades are about equally good with council god, lunge replaces some of polearms utility, but I guess you can always use wall jump to create space for reaching attacks.
