I feel the same way, especially with the Supremacy tree locked behind Purifier status, but I assume that's Wiz's way of making the ethos feel different, like the Psionics/Synths divide for Spiritualists/Materialists.

It'll certainly be a shame to be unable to be a Hive Mind Purifier race though, hell-bent on killing every source of independent thought in the galaxy.

The thing about words is that meanings can twist just like a snake, and if you want to find snakes, look for them behind words that have changed their meaning.

I'm pretty sure that it wasn't Supremacy tree that was locked to purifiers only (because that would be dumb and also a reverse of a main design intent for Tradition trees in the first place), it's specifically Armageddon bombardment that was being referred to in that tweet as being moved to purifiers and, presumably, replaced with something else in the Supremacy tree.

Also I would be deeply surprised if Hive Minds didn't get their own purifier-style civic, but I guess we'll see.

We are the hollow men
I guess I am filthy casual for hating pointless clicking and grinding in games and wanting gameplay choices to be meaningful/valid/fun.

How the hell do these idiots think that the new government system is more casual? Looking at that screenshot, it looks like Wiz is creating more possible combinations for governments and unique empires with defining characteristics. Right now only a couple government are worth using without gimping yourself and that restricts your ethos picks. And if I want an empire to have a AI personality, I have to go the wiki and use a cretin set of traits, ethos and governments to create what I want.

I was worried that the new feature to adopt an ethos of a party mid game would not work with the current government system, but this looks like Wiz might of come up with a system that can change and adapt as an empire changes. Basically meaning your government is not some timeless unchanging entity, but instead can adapt with the situation and your pops over time, being more organic, living.

Maybe I am reading too much in a screenshot.

I really like the way civics and government are being changed from the brief glance we have alone. Alongside what will likely be the most interesting dev diary regarding management mechanics, I think it'll be intriguing and allow for every player to create a more unique empire as a whole.

No more everyone in an aggressive multiplayer being mat/mil/ind for efficiency's sake at speed conquering. Single player empire building looks to be even more diverse in the amount of options that you'll be able to fiddle around creating thematic empires. Finally, you can be an immortal philosopher-king, etc.

That Steam thread is what happens when people don't get how combinatorics work. The gov types in Stellaris are basically just a set of empire bonuses and a method of succession/elections. These civics are also that, though some also seem to offer more deeper options. But now that you can mix and match civics and choose between 5 levels of authority you will have many more possible combinations, i.e. gov types (a set of empire bonuses and succesion/election). Due to many civics (and the authority levels) seeming to be unlocked by ethics not all combinations are going to be possible, still I am certain it's going to be more than 15 possible combinations.

Yeah, there's 80 possible ethics combos, even if only some of them have unique civics it'll be a hell of a lot more than 15. When you account for it being a combo of two ethics + a government style I pity whatever poor paradox employees were responsible for writing/QAing the naming system.

I wonder if there'll be a "nicer" version of syncretic evolution where you're allies and they both count as "Primary" species.

It only says you can't go hive mind - > synthetic/psychic. Might be able to go the other way. Even if you can't I'm really looking forward to playing those things from the first season of TNG that never went anywhere.

My big issue right now is that I can't try out all the new stuff in one play through. What will I play first??? :gonk:

This looks pretty great, though I already know that I won't be running a hive mind empire first, but a socialist war machine. I definitely do want to try a hive mind as my second or third empire now though. Being able to genemod species into having their individuality subsumed is aces and probably evil.

In theory, this might not be needed. It could be possible for the game to determine appropriate civics from the governments they have.

Nah, that's replaced the previous The Great Game which was +1 rival/+25% influence gain from Rivals. I hope you can still get Armageddon bombardment from the tree.

Actually I wonder how this perk interacts with Fanatic Purifiers? I assume they must still be able to assign Rivals, though it seems a bit pointless as everyone already hates you.
