This part isn't true. American nuclear carriers are refuelled as part of their refit/overhaul process, usually about every ten years. Nuclear submarines are also refuelled during their service lifetime.

This is one of the reasons america has so many carriers, they need to force project in multiple locations simultaneously, have some down for general stores replenishment and crew rotation, some available for training, some undergoing refit, and some on rapid response.

Carrier groups are the backbone of american soft power, each one is a piece of american territory that can be parked right next to a country. There are really good reasons nobody ever questions to dollar costs, because those are outweighed by everything else they do.

Carriers can go 20-30 years between refuel, but the new Ford class carriers are expected to have enough fuel to exceed their service life (50+ years)

I did a Duck Tour in Boston and it all went surprisingly well. Not a single incident on the river and everything worked perfectly.

Then we got back on the road and a guy with a learner's permit (which he didn't have on him when the cops arrived) driving a borrowed brand new Mercedes gunned the engine at an intersection on a rainy day, causing him to launch over the median and wedge the front of the car under our vehicle.

We have those duck tours here in Seattle too. They have a habit of running over parked cars and motorcyclists, and a couple years back one of them had an axle snap and it scissored into a packed tour bus and killed a ton of people. Then we didn't have duck tours for a while.

But now they're back!

How the gently caress do you snap an axle? Don't you have mandatory inspections that would identify such a problem?

They have those in London too, a couple of years ago one set of fire in the middle of the Thames. We also didn't have them for awhile after that.

In July 2010, 16-year-old Dora Schwendtner and 20-year-old Szabolcs Prem drowned in the Delaware River when a barge overran one of its ducks, which had been in a shipping lane. The two were on a church-sponsored trip from a small town in Hungary. The crew and the other passengers made it safely to shore.

The operator of the tugboat, who was on his cellphone dealing with a family emergency at the time of the crash, was convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

In another accident, a tourist from Beaumont, Texas, Elizabeth Karnicki, 68, was killed in May 2015 when a Ride the Ducks vehicle struck her as she crossed the intersection of 11th and Arch Streets in Chinatown.

Police said a witness reported seeing Karnicki crossing the street against a red light just before she was hit. At the time, she was looking at an electronic tablet.

We have one of those in Stockholm as well. When I rode it the guide had to ask us to spread out evenly on both sides of the bus to prevent it from listing.

It's nice to ride in the water, but it's pretty uncomfortable on land because the ballast makes it heavy as gently caress so the suspension is really stiff and it passes a few areas with cobblestone streets.

Turns out there is some design flaw that requires a retrofit to fix, otherwise the wheels fall off.

Suzy, I'm so very sorry but your dad died today.

How? Oh he was riding in a floating Dodge Ram and when it sank he got caught in the decorative netting and agonizingly drowned just meters from the surface. It would have seemed like the cruelest way to die, the surface just beyond your fingertips as you gulp in dirty river water.

Oh I'm so sorry. At least he died doing what he loved - riding in amphibious vehicles.

Honestly just take a normal boat tour through the Dells. Especially if you can get one that'll let you off to walk up Witches Gulch.
