EoRaptor posted:This part isn't true. American nuclear carriers are refuelled as part of their refit/overhaul process, usually about every ten years. Nuclear submarines are also refuelled during their service lifetime. Carriers can go 20-30 years between refuel, but the new Ford class carriers are expected to have enough fuel to exceed their service life (50+ years)

If it's stupid and it works, you shouldn't have to explain to the boss exactly how Tony broke his leg. "was he at the top of the pole?" no, he was 4th in the stack "4th in the what?"

They have a habit of running over parked cars and motorcyclists, and a couple years back one of them had an axle snap and it scissored into a packed tour bus and killed a ton of people. Then we didn't have duck tours for a while. But now they're back!

How the gently caress do you snap an axle? Don't you have mandatory inspections that would identify such a problem?

They have those in London too, a couple of years ago one set of fire in the middle of the Thames. We also didn't have them for awhile after that.

We have one of those in Stockholm as well. When I rode it the guide had to ask us to spread out evenly on both sides of the bus to prevent it from listing. It's nice to ride in the water, but it's pretty uncomfortable on land because the ballast makes it heavy as gently caress so the suspension is really stiff and it passes a few areas with cobblestone streets.

it's almost as though a WW2-era amphibious landing craft doesn't meet modern safety standards and is a poor design for a tour bus in the first place

Suzy, I'm so very sorry but your dad died today. How? Oh he was riding in a floating Dodge Ram and when it sank he got caught in the decorative netting and agonizingly drowned just meters from the surface. It would have seemed like the cruelest way to die, the surface just beyond your fingertips as you gulp in dirty river water. Oh I'm so sorry. At least he died doing what he loved - riding in amphibious vehicles.
