Wasn't Colonel Sink actually a decent commanding officer during his time with the 506th? I don't ever remember getting the vibe that he was some super lovely officer...

BoB is decidedly not about officer glory. That's the only thing I'm saying. Winters was the only officer badass, and he was the farthest thing from a glory hound. Office Space guy was an intel dude...there's no glory there, and he spent most of his time looking for scotch. Sink seemed competent; one of the Lts was a possible war criminal for executing a bunch of POWs, one was PTSDed out of his mind, Tom Hanks' kid was a West Pointer who didn't know poo poo yet, and every other officer was loving moron.

It's good but it's got a very different tone. It took me a while to figure out that I liked it. It's much more about the mental condition of a handful of guys who may/may not be in the same area as each other.

He also got most of his squad killed when he stormed that one artillery piece in the second episode but yes he was a bad rear end most of the series.

He took out some engineers to mark mines at night(!) and when they inevitably got hosed up by said mines, he told the driver where to turn when he was 100% wrong and got them stuck in a swamp. While trying to casevac the engineers.

No, it's chill dude, they were supposed to mark the mines with chem lights. That counters the darkness and makes them undangerous, it is known.

Doing any sort of live-action lane clearance with personnel is beyond stupid if it's not 1944. You loving go around, or you use a tank with a roller or a morningstar. Then in fully broad daylight in a secure situation with ample time you lane clear with personnel on the ground.

Kung Fu Fist gently caress posted:this looked good until the end with the entire sky blotted out by german fighters I'm inclined to agree, but the Luftwaffe was sending up 400+ aircraft to intercept the B-17s in 1942-43. The Kassel mission was '44, so the strategic bombing campaign should've had a noticeable effect, plus P-51 escorts. But a poo poo-ton of German fighters coming out of the sun isn't necessarily wrong. Depends how they write it.
