You guys ready to hear a satanic song?
Peter Dolving(The Haunted, IamFire) seems to be in a really bad spot right now.

https://www.facebook.com/peter.dolving/posts/10154327610002876

quote:

I was going to kill myself last night.
I didn´t have enough morphine, so I am still here.
I am spent. I don´t want this anymore.
I used to make music.
It used to be a deep deep drive inside - a desire to reach out.
That is gone.
It no longer fills me with joy.
It fills me with dread, and stress. It´s constantly burning a hole in my gut.
It hunts me.
Tones have transformed to noise.
Notes have become mere time-markers.
Human enthusiasm and joy feels as if some one pulls life right out from my centre.
”Come on! You can do it!” Feels like a knife in my heart.
”We love you!” - hurts. '
Expectations with no correlation to reality.
Ambition feels like being chased by people with good intentions, over a cliff.
I have been killed.
Dead man walking.
I used to be the personification of ambition.
That was my mistake.
I used to care and love.
That was my mistake.
I used to believe.
That was my mistake.
Pain was the price.
And people who want to pull something out of me -
that that they can use to feel stronger and better and happier.
I don´t want to share it anymore.
I don´t even have that in my own life; So why should I keep giving away that last spark of life?
To make you feel good?
I am not subjecting myself to anymore of it.
I made a lot of music. It proved to be a very very very dumb thing to do.
I am sorry. I beg my own forgiveness.
It has cost me my life.
It has deprived me of a regular life.
It has deprived me of functional relationships.
You know.
I really tried to communicate my Burnout, back in 2001 and the very REAL symptoms.
I tried.
They never went away. I never got a chance to heal.
But I have learned that most human beings are only capable of accepting and relating to, what suits their own emotional needs.
On the most primitive level; No-one cares about anyone.
But the biggest and most perverse action in all of this; has been me - sharing my emotions, hopes, desires, and dreams and thoughts with people all over the world;
People who cannot do anything about my situation;
Other than make it feel worse, and more impossible by the day.
In hoping I would inspire others; - I killed me.
Strange how that works.
Now -I don´t know what the gently caress to do.
I have been living in a suitcase for almost 4 years.
My Swedish friends all think I am exaggerating. My situation is no big deal. Nothing matters so what should I.
And they are right.
I don´t matter.
You don´t matter.
Music?
People who work with music?
Insane.
No more.
Music = Heroin.
Sorry.
I am done.
I am going looking for another life.
Somewhere else.
Otherwise my life ends here.
Which is bullshit.
Good bye, good luck with all your projects.

It's weird following him on FB. One day he's plugging the hell out of the upcoming IamFire record saying he's pumped about it and it's one of the better things he's ever done, but then other days he'll say that pursuing music was the worst decision he's ever made while plugging his linkedin.

Hope he gets better.

One of the reasons his thing is so uncomfortable for me to read is because his tone comes across as messed up and pathological, but the actual stuff he's talking about is pretty much just the way things are for rock musicians. He's pouring every ounce of himself into this creative pursuit, but there's no way to be a musician just as a full-time job. It takes over your life, and even then, there's no guarantee of any kind of financial success at it. You sacrifice literally everything else, and your reward is that you overwork yourself until your brain is dead inside.

Actually, he was the original singer in The Haunted on the first album, got kicked out/left due to drug habits and was replaced by Marco Aro (who later left because Gothenburg was too far away from Stockholm), and was replaced by Dolving. Now Dolving is replaced by Marco Aro.

Interviews with him tell of psychological issues and drug abuse, so he is one of those artists that self-medicate by drugs. Now he have probably had a relapse.
It is one of those classic cases of suffering artist.
Revolver, The dead eye are pretty loving great due to how Dolving comes across in the vocals.
There are so many metal bands that play ok, but lack good vocals. Aro was good in One Kill Wonder and Made me do it..., but he is more of a generic singer, compared to the craziness of Dolving.

After he left The Haunted for a 2nd time I remember reading he spent some time in Oregon and the American northeast smoking a lot of weed. He talked about it openly on FB which was weird to me since a few years prior in interviews and on myspace he stated that sobriety was a pretty big deal to him. I know some addicts have dropped the hard stuff and switched to weed but maybe Peter doesn't have the mind to do that. Not everyone does.

I know he lost custody to his kids 5-6 years ago and his ex-wife doesn't want him anywhere near them which is a major bummer and probably contributes to his lovely situation.

Just sucks to see. He needs help and I hope he gets it.

With the exception of Unseen, all the Haunted records that Dolving appears on are classics to me. He literally made those records great, in my opinion. His vocals really put across someone who is angry, afraid, and lashing out. He's one of the better metal singers in the last 15 years.

The first half of Dead Eye is just pure perfection.

With Marco they were/are just general metal band #483828439-A.

Each of the Aro albums had at least a handful of really good songs. For every "Hollow Ground" or "Shadow World" there's half a dozen stinkers, though. And the mixing on any given Aro album is really awful for no particular reason, regardless of when it was released.
