Remember 2 listen to the new Power Trip record: Nightmare Logic. It is extremely good, and I believe there are 2 perfect riffs on this album. Also they're touring, go see them unless you're stupid!!

Going to see them in Detroit with Iron Reagan.

I saw Power Trip on their tour with Bane and they really pandered to the hardcore crowd which meant they focused on the material with a lot of breakdowns and did a cover of "Jail of Depression" which ironically is by a band named Breakdown.

However seeing Crossbreaker performed live was loving great.

Hahaha holy poo poo. I used to live an hour away from Dawson Creek. Playing Encana Events Center is a sure sign that a band has lost all relevancy - Marilyn Manson, Megadeth, and Godsmack have all played there in the last few years, while missing major cities on the tours where this venue pops up. And now a Slayer/Lamb of God show. I guess all the rednecks up north will be happy that they don't have to drive all the way to Edmonton or Calgary to see them this time.

I love that genre so much. I don't even know if it has a specific name. Traditional heavy dungeon metal with proto doom vibes. These bands hosed me up in high school when I was into lesser metal. So raw, so energetic. So much good songwriting and riffs.

Well looks like I have to fly to SF and fight my doppelgänger!

That's funny though. It really is a great name for it. For me at least the music invokes all the old janky cheesy rpg games, old harryhausen films, sword and sorcery novels.

Here's something I've been wondering: is there a venue for purchasing music that is better, financially, for the artist? Does a band tend to take home more if I buy their album off Bandcamp rather than iTunes?

Bandcamp's better. It goes directly to the artist. Bandcamp gets a cut but it's probably a smaller one than iTunes. Plus it feels a bit more organic (that's a personal preference and if you don't care, it's cool).

I don't know about how itunes works but bandcamp skims 15% off what the artist makes, and if the artist pulls in more than $5,000 a year then that drops to 10%.

From what everyone says, it's pretty much the most fair method and profitable method, only really rivaled by selling tapes out of the back of your van at shows.

Lots of bands get copies of their releases and will often sell direct to you if they're relatively close by.

Bandcamp is definitely probably the best for digital purchases. 10% from physical merch is still probably a good deal, at least a lot better than they would get from their label.

It also rules that bandcamp is doing very well:

Bandcamp posted:

And now some genuinely great news in an otherwise unremarkable week: every aspect of Bandcamp’s business was up in 2016. Digital album sales grew 20%, tracks 23%, and merch 34%. Growth in physical sales was led by vinyl, which was up 48%, and further boosted by CDs (up 14%) and cassettes (up 58%). Every single one of these numbers represents an acceleration over last year’s growth. Hundreds of thousands of artists joined Bandcamp in 2016, more than 2,000 independent labels came on board (like Dischord, Merge, and Dualtone), and the rate of fan signups tripled. Fans have now paid artists nearly $200 million using Bandcamp, and they buy a record every three seconds, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

I prefer bandcamp to all other digital venues. I wondered why some bands were selling albums for 5 bucks but it makes sense given that there's only a 15% cut being taken out.
