Railing Kill posted:The wine analogy is a good one. Hershey's is to the rest of chocolate what Boone's Farm is to wine. I think it's more like Night Train. There's mass market chocolate like Ghirardelli, Godiva and Lindt that are quite good. They're more expensive, but they're in every grocery store.

Dark chocolate is what happens when rich people decide something as simple and pleasant to eat as chocolate just isn't snobby enough and make it taste horrible just so they can look down on people who don't want to eat it.

Once you get into the 90% range it's really more of a compressed bar of cocoa. About 60-70% is cool and good though.

Kinder eggs taste like the kind of chocolate they have to include an awful toy (item) to get you to buy. Why is this even being discussed? Candy with a choking hazard.

biracial bear for uncut posted:I hear from the crazy cat ladies at work that boxed wine actually tastes pretty good. Confirm/Deny? 'Tastes Good' is purely subjective for wine. The only way to find out is to try some. People tend to associate boxed wine with poor folks and winos because of its comparably low price/'quality', so it gets a bad rap. But - bottles are actually more expensive and less environmentally friendly then most boxed. And - more craft-style independent vintners are starting to get into the boxed game so you aren't always limited to the three or four standard labels if you're hitting a dedicated liquor store. If you ever go through a couple bottles of the foot- or kangaroo-wines in a week, I'd say it's worth checking out a boxed one. e: I will say it does lose a lot of the tactile enjoyment of bottled wine. Popping a bottle will always be more fun than pouring it out of what feels like a gatorade jug. Barbed Tongues has a new favorite as of 18:02 on Feb 28, 2017 |

sassassin posted:When someone claims kinder chocolate is "divine" we can safely say American chocolate must be poo poo. Yeah I mean, kinder make decent chocolate adjecent snacks but I read this last night and am still reeling. Nobody should look down on what chocolate you choose to eat but you should at least try to get into the better higher cocoa stuff (I agree Lindt is not a bad start). The nice thing about good chocolate is that yes, it is more expensive but you can get really good stuff without that much money! I love the 'dark chocolate is for snobs' poo poo. Yeah some people take it too seriously like some do with coffee, wine and beer but c'mon, it's one of the more affordable luxuries. Also, each to their own (except hershey's lovers) edit: well, most chocolate over 88+ has to be seriously amazing to be worth eating on it's own. I have still only had maybe two 88% that were crazy good. At that end you're more likely to get the overwhelming bitter 'oh no what did I do'. edit2: oh no I thought this was anti-food porn thread a sec. Sorry funny pictures thread.
