Just told my wife Siddig was cast in Gotham and her immediate reaction, no hesitation, was, "Oh, Ra's al Ghul is going to be on the show?"

They're not airing it because they decided to do that dumb 24 thing, not because they don't like the show. Also Fish's back. I think I'm the only one here excited, though.

My problem has never been with her craziness, it's her inexplicable plot armour. She's weirdly Mary Sueish in that anyone who doesn't fear her or respect her or love her fears how much they love respecting her. The character, as written, isn't deserving of the reactions she elicits.

Jada was just bringing a level of camp to the show that no one else was for far too long so she's earned some mileage with plot armor.

Didn't Gotham start out pretty strong, but had a massive drop off as the seasons went on? I would not be surprised that was becuase people watched the show and expected to see Batman and the Joker and all their favorites appear as the show went on. As they have shown almost zero inclination of doing that, they've stopped watching. I feel like this episode was a repeat in a lot of ways. Maybe its just the Bruce Clone replacing Bruce story line again is making me have deja vu. The Dumbest thing about it was that Alfred knew right away that it wasn't the real Bruce. I also think the thinly veiled attempt to bring Gordon into the Court of Owls is going to work out. Someone earlier said exactly why Fish never worked on the show; everyone is either in awe of her all the time, or she can turn people on a dime by reminding them that she's Fish Mooney, Bitch, but the show never has her act or do anything that would make people actually be so loyal to her. She would just do her low rent Ertha Kitt act and we were supposed to buy that she was so amazing and powerful everyone would just fall to their knees in awe of her. I'm guessing Bruce is with the League of Shadows/Assassins, so hopefully we'll actually get something interesting next week.

Lucius just staring in confusion and borderline disgust at Bullock and just asking if this is what Gordon has to put up with regularly was hilarious, if nothing else. drat shame we don't get Knock-off Liam Neeson from Arrow. Or Barrowman just straight up being Ra's al Titty-loving Ghul again for shits and giggles.

JesseHechtCREATIVE posted:Sorry to butt in, is this show good? I've been a fan of the old Batman Animated Series and I really like the Batman villains, so is this show worth the watch? Also, are there skippable seasons / episodes? Thanks! It's constantly taking the piss, and camp as balls. I love it -- though sometimes it tries to be serious and fails miserably; other times it does serious okay though, but that's more the exception that the rule. A lot of goons don't like the first season, but in my mind it's about as fun as the show ever is, and has some absolutely classic moments. Also, there's a lot of set-up and character introduction in that season, so it's kind of important in the long run. Also, if you're watching the first season, be aware that Barbara starts as the show's most mundane character, and absolutely ends up being one of the show's highlights. That transformation, if nothing else, is a big part of why I love the first season. That, and Fish Mooney, both the Lee episodes, and the parade of deliberately terrible knockoff Batman villains who keep having heavy things fall on them. Oh! And the first instance of several, once-a-season recurring gags. (I always thought the weakest part was about a third of the way into Season 3, with the deeply unfunny Hatter arc. It starts good, but it really overstays its welcome, particularly galling when it was competing for air time with Dumb Ivy and Judge Dredd, who were both a lot funnier.) The short version is that the show is deeply nontraditional, and it's more of a spiritual successor to the way people watched Adam West Batman, than to any particular era of the show or comics that I'm familiar with. One point in the show's favor, if you like B:TAS is that it has the same ambiguous time period thing going on where you have TVs, cellphones (but not smartphones), old '50s cars, computers, etc all hanging out together. That and it just kind of embraces its batshit insanity eventually, near the end of season 1, and never lets go. It tried to be a police procedural with comic book elements and has ended up firmly a comic book show about cops. And robbers. And occasionally an increasingly awesome wee lil' Bruce Wayne and Selena Kyle.

Nice to see Lucius getting some more screen time. Penguin's musical number was ace, and Nigma getting more unhinged by the second was a good start. This season hasn't even started being broadcast here in the UK yet. Whilst it was annoying having such a break , at least that mini Jerome arc made sense being separated between the two big chunks of season.
