I mean it would work on a pinch but yeah there's a world of difference between even that phone and a mid range one, let alone an iPhone or signature Samsung device. The updated version (626) packs more guts and even that device is critized for its sluggish performance. Not a huge deal if you don't notice I spose but the Internet is only getting heavier and less optimized. Also the battery life seems terrible from what I scoured. That said, if I needed any android smartphone and only had 100 bucks to allot, it seems like the options today are a lot more passable than they were a few years ago. Passable, mind you. Not good. Have you tried it yourself or do you base this on something else? I really don't get what's so bad about it. I have used expensive smartphones from friends and honestly this one can sustain the comparison. It's fast and can handle everything you throw at it. The screen res is lower but since the screen is small it still looks fine. I see nothing in a high end phone that would justify a price almost ten times higher

I only paid 300 for my note 4. Na I haven't used the HTC 526 myself and don't get me wrong, it seems surprisingly capable for its price. But the compromises on specs, screen res, and speaker/camera quality are going to be there. Whether that matters to you or not is different, as I admit that budget phones are better than ever. I like using my phone as a computer alternative so it's like buying a netbook vs a laptop with solid specs. You notice the downgrade in performance if you're used to higher specd phones. But na I don't have any firsthand experience with that phone myself.

(Some) budget phones really are better than ever. The Acer liquid I bought just before was poo poo on the other hand. But some hardware are just really well designed for the price, like my old nexus 7 2013 which still feels surprisingly relevant

It sort of reminds me of my latest tablet purchase, a zenpad s8. The drat thing was less than $130 new and it destroyed my expectations. I love it. No doubt the 300 dollar tablets perform better and feature nicer screens but for my purposes (books, comics, and PORN), the zenpad kills it and has a solid 10 plus hours of juice. That said, general Web browsing is noticeably shittier on my tablet than on my phone due to weaker guts, but it's still fine KingSlime has a new favorite as of 23:01 on Mar 2, 2017 |

I have an ASUS Transformer T100AT running Windows 10 that I bought on a whim a year or two back for $200 or so that I basically just use for Netflix when I'm not at home (Night shifts at work where I can multitask and watch dumb brainless TV are the best) because it's slower in every regard than my Nexus 5, but gets way better battery life running video. My wife has some Chinese market phone that's about on par spec-wise with the S7 but everything about it just feels weird and off to me, before you even take the Engrish into account. loving thing can go for like three days between charges even with her playing Zen Koi or whatever's caught her attention now, that's about all I'm really jealous of with it. My cases and my phone will be here tomorrow. I completely forgot I actually ordered this while half asleep a couple nights ago but this showed up today: The Mattel View-Master Virtual Reality Starter Pack. A $17 Google Cardboard alternative. It's exactly as dorky to use as you imagine, if you've never used one. https://www.amazon.com/View-Master-Virtual-Reality-Starter-Pack/dp/B011EG5HJ2 Just wish Netflix VR wasn't exclusively for Gear VR. Might have to grab one of those soon too.

It's almost as if different people value things differently. Weird. Speaking of dubious value: Just got it and still doing updates and stuff. Won't really have impressions until the weekend (I can't wear it at work-kitchen), but it seems nice so far and a bit smaller than I imagined, which is nice, because I didn't want a huge watch. The reviews mentioned the leather being pretty bad and...yeah. I'm waiting for a metal band option anyway.

Oh, I'm including Apple in that group. I can't see them trying too much longer given that it hasn't really driven their top or bottom line. And it's not a halo product in their lineup either (to borrow the term from carmakers), so... I think it's a zombie product line all around.

And I bought two books: Wilde Stories 2014- LGBT speculative fiction and Queer Hauntings: True Tales of Gay and Lesbian Ghosts. Currently debating pre-ordering Sex and the Constitution: Sex, Religion, and Law from America's Origins to the Twenty-First Century.

Is that like a murder - mystery novel, only instead of trying to guess who killed Mr Black in the library with the candlestick, it's who sodomized him with it?

Mu Zeta posted:I read something about how it's one of the best selling watches of all time in the span of 2 years. Eh, I read that smartwatch sales were tanking. Which then Apple says is wrong, but since they don't report actual sales figures we have to take them at their word. Thing is, even if IDC is completely wrong and the iWatch sold at the same clip today as it did when introduced (est. 3.6 mil/quarter), that's about 15 million units per year. In 2016, Apple sold more than 200 million iPhones in a down year. And Android watches are obviously doing worse I'm not saying that the iWatch in particular didn't sell at all, but that the entire segment is shaping up as having a small impact on revenue and might be a rounding error when it comes to profits, especially when compared to the hype. Apple doesn't strike me as sentimental about product lines that aren't really working, and neither does the new Google.

If work equipment counts, i just ordered a dell e7470 14 in laptop, a compatible docking station, laptop bag, iphone(unknown model) case and car charger. My boss is ordering an unknown # of polo shirts/button-downs with the company logo on them for me. I just got a diagonally upward promotion and have to request the appropriate equipment.

Humerus posted:Speaking of dubious value: I'm a little late, but please post a trip report when you've gotten to use it for a little bit! I'm between this and the LG Watch Style. The ZenWatch has a little bigger battery (100 mAh more, I don't know if this is significant in a gadget this size) and is much more visually appealing, but I'm concerned about the big lugs on the Zen being too chunky on my little wrists and the protruding buttons being awkward. The LG is sort of plain looking, but I'm rocking a Pebble Time Round right now and it's not exactly a show-stopper so that doesn't bother me... I do like that the Style has the rotating crown for navigation a LOT. I watched a video review of it in use and it looks slick as hell. There are a good amount of third party straps for the Style too, and it can use Google's MODE straps... The ZenWatch can only use ASUS brand. Ugh I'm so indecisive I secretly already bought the Style (Best Buy open-box deal for $200, will be delivered sometime next week), but if this is nice I might return it before I tell my fiance I bought it - he told me I should hold off and I'd never hear the end of it if I immediately want to swap it out for something else.
