Manfred hates shifts and wanted to ban them all together.

I've seen the usual in-game replays of it, but nothing that close, that slow, from side on. I don't watch Marlins games though so maybe they've focused on it more.

Yeah. Just about everybody kicks some divots into the outfield grass while they're out there and if it's too loose a rule your going to end up penalizing guys who do it when they're bored along with guys who have a divot for every guy in the batting order.
That's not how these markers work btw. Teams mark a reference point for each of the 3 OF positions and then shift left/right/in/out some amount relative to that for each player/situation.

It's just stunning to me how the Cubs whiffed this badly on him, when other teams didn't want anything to do with him because they knew he had a hole in his swing.

The gently caress? Hayward was increadibly highly regarded by a ton of teams and got a huge amount of offers. This is some of the craziest revisionist history I've ever seen.

The Cardinals offered him more money than the Cubs (without an opt-out). Also it's 11 ABs in spring training so I wouldn't quite jump the gun on declaring Heyward a lost cause.

Every single year the Ivy League takes a break from fucking up the world through its various alumni to fuck up everyone's bracket instead.
Braves fans would have told you that he'd go into deep slumps that would drive you crazy, especially at the beginnings of seasons, but the hot spells and the consistent defensive wizardry made it worth while. That said, he never really fulfilled the promise of his rookie year (mostly because of a steep drop in his walk rate) and the 2014 season made it clear that his inconsistency could stretch out long enough that Freeman was clearly the better bet in the long run.

Didn't the Wilpons lose their shirts from the whole Bernie Madoff thing? Do they have financial influence? Because unless you've got some dirt on people it seems like that's the only kind of influence you could have on a baseball owner.

The only reason the Wilpons are still involved in baseball at all after that whole scandal is because of their connection to Selig, and Manfred is basically his puppet
