Hi everyone, My twin brother Ray, who occasionally posted here as Chocolate Teapot, passed away yesterday peacefully in his sleep. He developed sepsis following the end of his chemotherapy treatment over a month ago, causing multiple organ failure. His body was unable to recover without intensive medical treatment. I want to show my appreciation for everyone who has made this a place he felt home in, even if he didn't post a lot. Thank you.

Fangz posted:Nice deflection. So why did you quote the Mail then? Is it just your usual news source? Why do you think the Mail is frontpaging made up stuff about Blair? Just innocently informing the public? I quoted it to make the amusing post "Okay he's just trolling us at this point". I'm still intrigued why you think an attack on Tony Blair is an attack on New Labour, though?

The Daily Mail is 'trolling us', while you assume what it says to be true, if it involves Tony Blair. Why is that? And er, yeah? Tony Blair and New Labour are kinda connected? You think the Mail is frontpaging this for giggles? Fangz fucked around with this message at 22:20 on Mar 5, 2017 |

Fangz posted:The Daily Mail is 'trolling us', while you assume what it says to be true, if it involves Tony Blair. Why is that? No, the joke was I thought that Tony Blair was personally trolling us by wanting to be Trump's peace envoy to the Middle East and leaking this plan to the Daily Mail. It was such a perfect sotrm of annoyances for this thread, it seemed an amusing thing to say. New Labour was a much, much bigger project than Blair, and one that started before the odious little poo poo even entered Parliament. Conflating the two is done by precisely two kinds of people - the kind of people who thought calling him BLIAR and his party ZaNU PF LIEbour was Swftian satire, and the kind of people who think the sun shines out of his arse and the odd million dead brown people is a decent price to pay for watered-down Third Way-ism. I doubted you were the former. And the Mail put it on the front page because they very definitely are the former and still have a hate-boner for him that puts most of this thread to shame, and are loving horrified that he would be cosying up to their flaxen-haired fascist darling. Unless you genuinely think a) St. Tony will return from the wilderness to reclaim his throne and b) that the Mail made the story up to discredit him in the minds of the Beige Army waiting to follow him to the neoliberal promised land.

Unforced Corbyn error #456741235: in which our hero makes his tax return public to try and grandstand about his probity, only to reveal that he's hosed it up for the second year running and forgotten to declare £37k of income http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-39175570 quote:Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has published his tax return as part of a call for transparency from politicians.

Jesus Christ people, that's still by far the closest I've seen a politician come to a real, clean tax return. I mean I've seen politicians declare huge mansions with helipads on them for $1 value and nothing happen, in comparison this dude forgetting to declare £35k is a breath of fresh air.

Pissflaps posted:I think Jeremy is the product of some Tory project to create their perfect Labour leader. Thatcher already completed this project though? If anything Corbyn is the twisted creature that crawled out of the pod unnoticed after Blair was complete, composed entirely of the parts he left behind, like socialism, but drained of charisma. The Anti-Tone.

If you're making the political point that people over a certain income should post your tax returns, and getting the chancellor to call it demonstration politics instead of posting his own, it's an own goal to then miss the equivalent of 150% of a newly qualified nurses salary off your own income. It leaves him open to ridicule and he'll have to publicly deny any wrongdoing. The right wing press get to laugh at him instead of engaging with the point.

I mean really if it is wrong it sort of proves his point, when it comes to people who actually make our tax law we should know if they themselves are following it and where their conflicts of interest might lie.
