Every time some idiot right-winger talks about "the marxist agenda" or other flavours of secret left-wing agendas I strongly wish they were an actual real thing because it would mean a powerful secret left-wing organization was controlling everything from the shadows, intent on... making things better? I prefer secret socialist Illuminati to just collective stupid greed.

The main character is literally raped by a school uniform in the first episode. Kill la Kill is garbage trash that was written on the fly, is full of messaging problems and adds, removes or alters characters from half to half because the creators had no loving plan.

I don't watch much anime anymore after the foolish choices of my youth. I finished Naruto out of sheer inertia and quit Bleach about twenty chapters from the end, which got so indefensibly poor that Kubo was told he had five chapters to wrap up then they were pulling the plug.

I like a lot of western animation though. There's a new series of Duck Tales that's looking pretty solid.

Cowboy Bebop. Alternatively, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju for drama, Sword of the Stranger for action, and Planetes for cool political sci-fi. Don't remember schoolgirls, rape, or surprise monsters in any of those.

My immediate D&D thought is that this is some kind of political statement, like how dress codes are used as an excuse to assault and harass women, and also uniforms are a hierarchical form of oppression that often hard code the idea of gender into an institution, therefore the rape by the uniform is symbolic of the trauma all women face under patriarchy.

Then I remembered we're discussing bad anime and not bad 2nd waver lit, so it probably grows tentacles or something. idk/care

They did actually go there for a while in that show. Then they skipped through a few dozen different themes and ended up with 'not making sense is what makes humanity great'. It was the studio's first long-form narrative, made by the most rabidly id-driven member of its core staff, and it showed.

well yeah, part of my point is that the party membership don't always make the best choices. Though to be fair, you can also look back at the US elections and see a path to a Sanders victory based on where it was lost. No one could say in good faith they believe Burnham, Cooper or Kendall would be beating May in the polls as things stand.

The problem with removing Corbyn without a viable old labour candidate is that it dooms labour to irrelevancy anyway. It won't win back Tory voters, just destroy whatever surge in membership occured under cobyn.

Corbs has already been A Very British Coup'd and he's no-where near as charming as the guy in that.

Oh come on, all Labour need to do is return to the tried and tested stance of being a timid and unconfident version of the Tories and they'll SWEEP back into power!

The 'surge in membership' has been an objectively bad thing for labour.

Kill la Kill is absolutely not something you give out as a blind recommendation unless you know that the recommendee is likely to be OK with all the... stuff that happens in the second half (or, hell, a chunk of the stuff that happens in the first half). Might want to adjust your filters a little.

I wholly agree, that's why I didn't recommend it, it was some other chap (I recommended Gurren Lagann, which does also suffer from Women In Anime syndrome, but not to the same degree, and it's not integral to the plot of the show like it is in KLK). I'm just saying that it is a very good show, not 'garbage'.

Yeah sorry, it was me. I forgot I have been watching this poo poo for a while. I should also reexamine my view on women in media and how I assess their situations; just because blatant female sexualisation (empowering or otherwise) doesn't affect me doesn't mean I shouldn't look at how it's portrayed. I don't want to become one of those thoughtlessly misogynistic gays.
As Joanna Russ states, when a man writes a female character, they're not creating a woman, they're creating their perception of a woman.

Nah it's poo poo mate. Even taking away the objectionable content it's still poorly paced and the main character goes through the exact same dilemma at least 3 times.
