Point of order, previous post refers to "Jacobin" in a generic "left wing media" sense, not the internet magazine specifically.

Pelosi and Reid only look good because they're the few competent main dems compared to the rest of the party its like how people go "mccain doesn't seem too bad, he's willing to stand up to other republicans and stuff" when hes the dude who snuck in a rider selling off native american land to a wholly unrelated bill(in modern times, not during his teenage years of 1910)

Politicians are supposed to be principled public servants, not ambitious profiteers trying to accumulate capital. I'm glad we could meet in the middle.

They'll see your compromises and your willingness to stand firm for the bill and demand a couple more compromises, as it's only reasonable. Cowing to the appearance of not seeming uncooperative you offer those compromises plus some more to make them happy and stop compromising. They demand more or they won't vote as you need their vote so you compromise some more. It's like an immune system that says sorry when a virus is having it's way with it's body, enough so to pre-compromise itself so the virus can get it's job done quicker of killing the host

What's the sample group? Because I'm guessing that 40% of people who lack a positive image of capitalism are predominately Democrats, making the statement quite tone deaf. Especially since their are probably at least a few who might have a positive view of capitalism in general but also think that a political party being inherently capitalist might be less than great.

Actually I looked up the full Gallup poll and 32% of Republicans have a negative view of capitalism, and 13% have a positive view of socialism. If the Democrats could peel off even half those people they'd pretty much run the government, wouldn't they? Interesting stuff. (Almost 60% of Democrats have a positive view of socialism, and that number is much higher for those under 50)

I'm glad she's fighting now, and I hope she keeps fighting. Fighting like Ed Balls.
