Faith in Western Australia totally redeemed. What an awesome bit of news to wake up to. Now can only hope WA Labor come through with some genuinely good socialist progress, starting with hiking up BHPs royalties and directing that revenue directly into public services.

Bogan King posted:Maybe the Nats are pissed enough to vote with the ALP I'd love to see Labor go to the Nats and say "we won't touch Royalties for Regions if you guys vote with us in the upper house". They won't. They also won't stop Roe 8 or hike up royalties on mining companies. I don't think they'll sell Western Power though, if they do they're going to get destroyed on a scale that makes this election win look like a line call.

I love the irony of that statement. I think "out of touch politicians pushing personal agendas" is a completely apt description of Cory Bernadi.

He's talking about senate seats, don't know why he thinks they are getting three. They're currently on one so far, however counting may take a while.

You just watched what happens to a party who breaks every core promise they took to the last election here. With the ALP likely beholden to those 3 Greens upper house votes to pass legislation, I highly doubt they're going to backflip on that one and all but guarantee a hostile LC next term, if not a total loss.

Also there's no chance Roe 8 will proceed under the ALP. It was a key, voting-winning promise of theirs to scrap it and proceed with the outer harbour in Kwinana. http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-04/labor-to-scrap-roe-8-if-it-wins-wa-election/8160980

That's ridiculously cynical. Doing a 180 on Roe8 would be a good way to completely squander all the goodwill from the election. The seeds of Barnett's defeat yesterday were sowed a few months after the 2013 election when it became clear that he lied about a whole bunch of promises. Even people who don't care about the Freight Link would be angry that they were lied to so blatantly.

Obviously Roe is probably not going to change because it's just a bunch of dumb graft for buddies of the Libs but a campaign promise that makes it past election day is rare af.
