Immediately remove the keybind that jettisons everything from your cargo hold.

I completed my first mission and was very proud of the 2k credits I received for data delivery

Then I left the station and investigated a distress signal which was pirates and got blown up, thus ending the career of my first spaceman

You get a hundred and forty one thousand years and you're out in eight!
When you are in Supercruise and target an Unknown Signal Source, wait until it tells you the threat level before diving in. As a noob in a sidewinder you probably want to stick to situations that say 'THREAT 1' or less. Threat 0 would usually be something like the aftermath of a battle with nothing around but space materials. These are very useful to scoop. Practise scooping these materials as a fun little side-game and aim to have about 20 of each type in your inventory. You will be glad you collected materials now when you start visiting Engineers later in the game. Materials do not take up actual cargo space and do not disappear when you die.

Note that there is a difference between scooping materials and scooping stolen cargo from the aftermath of a battle. Materials are benign but stolen cargo will cause you to gain a bounty if you are caught with it.

Amp it up.

Also, shameless plug but we've got an organised goon group in the game called the Diamond Frogs (the info is over here in PGS) which I'd heartily recommend joining since we've got a nice active Discord server with lots of people who've been here since the original beta who can answer any questions you might have or explain some of the more obscure mechanics as you run across them. There is unfortunately very little in the way of group organisation in game so we have to do it all through external sites and services.

It's also nice to have a little direction in a game that has no real goals because it's a sandbox.

The best way to navigate the mailslot is at full boost.

Always fly it like you stole it and avoid getting scanned. Most of the time it won't matter but it's good training for when you're smuggling.

I've done a bunch of those data delivery missions at this point so I think I've got the hang of flight basics. When should I start considering ship upgrades?

When you start flying a Viper or Cobra Mk Anything or a Diamondback Scout, and you still have enough spare cash to afford 2-3 rebuys after an unplanned death.

Prioritise your capacitor and engines first when you do. Pulse lasers are your low budget friend.

I liked my X52 Pro, but it broke just outside of warranty and I ended up getting a CH Fighterstick Pro, CH Throttle and the rudder pedals. It's not perfect, but it is very flexible (the the downside that you have to spend an age setting it up as you want it).

It's happened a grand total of once to me in the 2 and a bit years since launch (alpha/beta doesn't count as there was a lot of "testing" of different combat strategies going on).

There is even large PVE group (Mobius) if you want some players in your galaxy, but don't want to be attacked by them. But the game's PvP is completely optional anyway.

That's what I originally used and it is quite good. When I dropped Fly 5 on the floor and trigger broke I bought a non-pro X52. Not sure I can actually recommend buying it because nobody knows how long it will last, but it feels very pleasant to use (even on SRV) and all buttons and hats are very conveniently located. My own started to break after 2 years, shift button stopped working so I rebound it to "mouse click button" and will keep using it until it dies completely.

Whaaaaa? I really hope that checks out, and makes it into the official release.

I love the look and feel of my DBX, but with no real advantages over my AspX, I've never been able to justify choosing it for surveying expeditions. It's currently sitting in my garage, outfitted for Fuel Ratting, just in case I ever decide to get back into that.

If I could squeeze a little more range out it, suddenly I'd have an actual reason to sacrifice those internal modules for exploration.

Pretty much. It's far enough away that getting there is an accomplishment, but not far enough that a trip there will take you out of action for months. You'll see some cool stuff along the way, and probably discover some cool systems that nobody has ever seen before.

There's not much to do once you get there, but that will change over time as it (presumably) turns into a bigger bubble of its own.

Check my post history, I've always said the DBX is the best explorer, now it may be quantifiable as so... :awesome:

What was the extra slot? Literally anything would work, since it only needed an additional size 1 slot to fit an SRV and shields! My brain is reeling with ideas for a fully-kitted planetary DBX with shields/scanners! Beelining back to the bubble now!

That change to the DBX kind of fixes the AspX. Think about it, the Asp is supposed to be the jack of all trades and do everything above average. Instead, it straightout owns at Exploration and is very good at everything else.

Eventually, we're hoping that they turn it into a player controlled bubble 2.0. Someplace that allows some level of player agency for the major groups that go out there. So far, our alliance, Galcop, has a station there so you can do the usual BGS shenanigans, but it's lacking in options for outfitting and ship purchasing as well as no engineering at all. So basically you have to get your ship setup exactly how you want it and fly it out there and then live with your setup. Ship and module transfers are enormously expensive so not really an option.

In short, it's something different for players who have mostly reached what might be considered "end game."

Overwined Tours FAQ:

1. Why does my cabin have a door directly to space?
The Rapidexit™ hatch is there for your convenience and comfort.

2. It appears to be operated by explosive bolts, is that safe?
The Rapidexit™ hatch can only be operated at the discretion of the captain, who is definitely a well adjusted individual. Rest assured, here at Overwined Tours your safety is our paramount concern.
