Democrats are relying on suspicion and innuendo about what mysterious connections might exist between Trump and Russia, just like Republicans did with the whole "what is in the deleted emails" line. It's a pretty standard political play, the insinuation of wrongdoing by shady associates (see: Whitewater, etc.), and Trump can't get ahead of the story because in between full-throated denials, things keep coming out like Flynn meeting with the Russian ambassador then getting confused about what they talked about, Sessions being misleading/misspeaking about the same during his confirmation hearings, pretty much everything associated with Paul Manafort's Russia connections, etc. As gets stated, none of those things are hard evidence that anything untoward happened, but the impression that I get from all of it is that they're acting like they got caught with their hand in the cookie jar, but every time something small trickles out, it's just like the little bits and pieces of things that came out in Hillary's emails. It gives the impression that there's something more that could come out, but hasn't. Honestly, I don't think that there is anything there more nefarious than Russia wanted Trump to win the election, Trump knew that Russia wanted him to win, so Trump's team did their best to stay on friendly terms with Russia, but Democrats are doing a good job in planting the seeds of doubt that there mustbe something else there just like Republicans planted doubts about what's in all that secret stuff that Hillary emailed.
