When Mass Effect 3 was in beta and it turned out you could accidentally download it on Xbox 360 it wasn't in a completed state and there was a bunch of placeholder dialogue using either text to speech or some intern blandly reading the dialogue and very little if any emoting from the characters, all of which was cleaned up at launch so maybe that's what up?

I feel like the voice direction is "we aren't going to have the money, time or talent to animate this properly, so do it like you've had ten Valium so it matches up. Wait make that space Valium. Ok go."

No, the code people are playing is the game. The review copies are the game. The 10 hour trial content is the game. This is the finished product not including future patches.

"not how he died...i pulled those logs...what happened with...pathfinder" is what's setting off my "what is going on" alarm That genuinely sounded either stitched together or that someone is skipping rapidly through the dialogue and if that's the state it's in right now without any player intervention whatsoever and it sticks out like such a sore thumb I can't think of any other explanation other than that it's not done (and that includes "the game is just bad" because there is no other conversation that is anywhere near that bad)

Reminder a solid 90% of the game is still unknown to us and full of so many more wonderful blunders to be found. I'm really tempted to buy it and find them, but I know a funny youtube video will have them sometime in the next few weeks.

Endorph posted:it's stitching clips together and and adding some punchlines but it's not literally making lines up, dude. if the line reads are bad, they're going to be bad with or without a youtuber adding a laughtrack afterwards. Actually that stuff matters a lot. Simply watching with or without audio changes the way the scene looks. Case in point: The problems regarding facial animations aren't nearly as noticeable if it's being watched in 60 fps with sound. Start throwing edits and laugh tracks in and you have a whole different scene that was designed to look ridiculous

I don't know when Foster did her lines, but Tom Taylorson (Scott Ryder) on Twitter said that he's been doing voice lines for this game as recently as January and as far back as 2015.

I was really excited to try this, and made sure to not read up on anything about to avoid skewed opinions etc etc. Don't want to write a wall of text so here are some points. - Quite like the combat, feels like what ME1 was trying to be. - Half the characters seem to have skin like plasticine, the other half like stone walls. - Sara Ryder constantly looks like she's done a prank off-screen and is waiting for the others to find out. - A lot of moments dramatic moments feel hollow, almost like they're not actually happening. The moment when you got the Tempest didn't seem to have any weight behind it at all. - It feels like the game has no music. - The whole 'Pathfinder! Pathfinder? Pathfinder.' way of referring to Ryder feels really lame. - I'm already sick of the jumpjet noise. Despite those above points I don't think the game was crap overall. I like the premise and it looks like it could very well get more interesting as time goes on, it just feels weirdly empty for the first few hours, and kind of like it wished it was a fantasy game instead of sci-fi. Okay so I've finished up my ten hours. Some thoughts: 1) a lot of the facial animations still suck. They're definitely improved from the December trailer, but PeeBee in particular is having issues. 2) a lot of the voice actors are phoning it in. Kumail Nanjiani is absolutely not phoning it in, and nor is anybody playing a Salarian. I don't know why the Salarian voice actors are knocking it outta the park, but they really are. 3) combat is fuckin rad. Best of any Bioware game I've played. I know we don't buy RPGs for the fight scenes, but everything about the combat is super fun. Biotic Charge really didn't need jetpack support but I appreciate it nonetheless. 4) Eos is empty as gently caress. I don't know why game developers think we want these big empty sandboxes to tool around in but it's just not that interesting. 5) I really hope there are more squadmate options. Right now it looks like we're saddled with the two boring humans whose personalities are "is a soldier" and "is a cop" respectively. Liam's dialogue is particularly cringey: it's like he's spitting out half-remembered Firefly quotes. 6) exploration (of actual stuff, not empty desert) is pretty fun. I like how the scanning mechanic turns you into a space detective.
