Pretty much every South Korean I've ever spoken to about the North (And I lived there for 2 years in the deep dirty south) doesn't give a tammany gently caress about the North. I had been over there for like 2 months when the Cheonan got mined/torpedoed and all my relatives back home were freaking out. Koreans were just like "Meh, happens all the time." Even when a bunch of their poo poo got hacked, they didn't care. Hell, some thought it was their own government who hosed up and blamed it on the North. They're smart and pragmatic enough to know that war with North Korea will destroy them economically. Plus, the generation with living relatives North of the DMZ is almost gone. There's no familial bond between the newer generations on either side. They don't care, and they sure as poo poo don't want tens of millions of starving, brainwashed, uneducated people coming in. Imagine your average defector from the North; 1) They have no skillset for the modern world, especially not for modern-day Korea. (Defectors can't understand how a ATM works; they think there's someone on the other side pushing their money through the slot) 2) Decades of malnourishment has probably left them with medical issues. SK has good healthcare, really good, and would be utterly destroyed by a massive influx of NK refugees. The entire social net would collapse overnight from the weight. 3) Gen X/Millennials in SK have nothing in common whatsoever with their counterparts in the North. They don't even really speak the same language anymore (Imagine the "cash me outside how bow dat" girl, and how her English sounds to the rest of us. That's how NK Korean sounds to the South) IF there is ever going to be reunification it has to be on the terms of the North and the South. Sure as gently caress not due to Donne Dumbfuck starting a war and leaving the south holding the bag.
